That wonderful ride that you took was not more entrancing than tht sight that tho blue sky gave In the main pnrt of the program, as Paulhan and Ilrmflton and Curtlss rode round and round. Paulhan kept It up for nearly two hours 1 hour SS minutes and 27 2-5 seconds, to be. exact covering In that time 75 6 10 miles. Had he kept up the speed for two hours more ho would have beaten Henry Farman'u cup record time for 144 miles, a foat which th4 Frenchman promised to do tomorrow. Parlhan descended on account ac-count of a leak In his fuel tank. Hamilton came down after his eleventh elev-enth lap of the mile and a half course. Hp was called from the air by one of his mechanicians, who discovered that a part of the machine was out of place. In their air marathon the biplanes passed nndor and over each other many times without mishap. Paulhan kept tho high course 200 feet while Hamilton rode the lower. Curtiss went out to beat his own rocord for ten lapf round the course.. He succeeded In doing this. His time was 23 minuU s and 4 3-5 seconds. His fastest lap was made In 2:15. Paulhan Paul-han tried to bat Curtlss in this 10-lap 10-lap race, but his time was registered as 25-05 1-5. It whs a day of clearest atmosphere and great crowds came out Curtiss was the first to get into the air. After a short flight to test the wind, which had sunk to a slight breeze, he took Lieut. Paul W. Deck, U. S. A. Signal Corps, as a passenger and made a short low flight. Then he took up Frank Johnson ot San Francisco.
