This switch device Is being exhibited in the city and many railroad men, having fresh in mind the accident of yesterday, yester-day, havo carefully examined It They all pronounce It a success and aver that it would be quite Impossible fur an accident of the Lemay character to happen were it in operation The switch Is what is known as an improved stub switch operated from the engine by the engineer, while the train Is In motion, giving the engineer engi-neer complete control of the switch even while the train is running at a hlh rate of speed To set the switch necessitates the movement of a side, or locking device. While a train is passing over the switch, for 50 feet before until 50 after, the switch rails are immovable because of the weight of the train, and the weight of ths train also readjusts the switch so that a train coming on the main line can not run on to the sidlnjr During tho passage, of a train it Is impossible to change the position of tho switch. The engine is equipped with a trip adjustment that Is automatic and normally nor-mally closed, This means that the train must remain on the main lino unless the trip Is thrown into the flange on the rail to throw the switch for the siding, all being controlled by the engineer in the cab.
