Show NO CHANGE TO BE MADE IN HOOVER OIL conservation palo alto calif secretary aubur does not contemplate any changes in the executive order of president hoover withdrawing the public domain from oil prospecting the interior department part ment head declared bere tuesday that careful study of all factors in the handling of the public domain in relation to the conservation of oil convinced him there would be no change in the order of march 12 barring the further issuance of permits for oil and ras prospecting secretary aubur has been studying reports of the colorado springs governors conference where the hoover order was attacked by representatives of the rocky mountain states he said that nothing in the report caused him to contemplate recommending any change in the order thru affidavits the secretary said the department of interior has been able to decide on equities of those who have spent money on the public lands and where such expenditures have aken place permits are issued or extended since the order was issued the department part ment has modified it to allow for the granting of permits where geological surveys have been made preliminary to actual drilling and tor the extension of permits where such surveys have been made the interior department committee appointed to consider all applications and permits composed of dr george otis smith director of the geological survey commissioner moore of the general land office and solicitor aln ney have handled approximately cases in five thousand of the cases applications tor permits were returned where there was no evidence of development and two thousand permits were cancelled in the other ases application or permit holders were cited to show cause why their papers should not be cancelled or returned secretary aubur has instructed the committee to give every consideration to the claims of those who believe ey have equities he said tuesday that the federal government did not wish to work hardship on or do an injustice to anyone holding a permit but that the public domain must be cleared of its blanket of paper the interior department head indicated that later he would outline a new land office policy and put the public domain on an entirely new basis |
