Show LEADING MANTI MAN DEAD. MantI, June 12. Hans Jensen, the ex-iblshop of the MantI South ward and one of the pioneer residents of this city, passed away at his home In this city vesterday afternoon after an Illness of only a few days. Mr. Jensen Jen-sen was tho son of Peter and Margaret Mar-garet Jensen, and was born In Hals, Denmark. June 24, 1829. Hans arrived in Salt Lake In 1853 and reached MantI Man-tI tho same year, where he engaged I In farming. For twenty years ho was I engaged in selling farm Implements and was a director in the MantI Co-op. He served as a member of the city council for several years. Seven veara ho was the bishop's counselor In the MantI South ward, and later served as the bishop of the South ward, holding hold-ing this position more than twenty years. In 1865 he went on a mission to Denmark and was gone three and one-half one-half years. In 187S he wa3 sent by the church to help locate Manassa and Sanford In Colorado. He took his two children, Mary and Marius. In returning he had to pass through a hostile Indian country, and as the Ouiay Indian war was then In progress, pro-gress, be had several narrow escapes. |
