In 1968, Gold Cross began providing ambulance ambu-lance service in the Salt Lake area, with four employees trained in Advanced American Red Cross First Aid. Calls were responded to in one of two 1968 Cadillac ambulances. ambu-lances. Today, with headquarters in Salt Lake, Gold Cross is the state's largest provider of emergent and non-emergent medical transportation. transporta-tion. There are more than 300 employees em-ployees and 50 ambulances in service ser-vice from 27 different stations and post locations throughout their service ser-vice areas. Their primary service areas include the greater portion of Salt Lake County, Utah County, Juab County and Uintah County. "There are different challenges which accompany each area we service," ser-vice," said Basinger. "The diversity that each area provides invites new challenges for us to conquer, thus enhancing the quality service whteff we strive to provide." The Uintah County service area provides Advanced Life Support emergency response, non-emergent transfers and critical care transport to hospitals outside the area. In January 1998 a new station and community training center was completed at 220 W. 100 S. in Vernal. Gold Cross Ambulance has provided service to Uintah County for over 11 years and has grown with the area during that time. There are currently five ambulances ambu-lances at the Vernal station and one ambulance stationed in Jensen. Field supervisors respond to calls in a "First Response" vehicle, assuring assur-ing advanced care is en route in an expedient manner. The staff of over 60 dedicated EMTs, intermediate EMTs and RNs, provide some of the highest level of care in any rural area. Because emergency medical services ser-vices is a system of care for victims of sudden and serious illness or injury. in-jury. Gold Cross likes to be active participants in the communities served. This system depends on the availability and coordination of many different elements, which begin be-gin with an informed public recognizing recog-nizing medical emergencies. Community classes are provided in American Heart Association CPR, basic first aid and emergency medical medi-cal technician courses. Many demonstrations are provided for scouting groups, area self help groups and church organizations. "As members of the Vernal Area Chamber of Commerce, we are always al-ways proud to co-sponsor or support sup-port such local events as the Health Fair, the Dinosaur Roundup Rodeo and many others." Gold Cross is also a member of the American Ambulance Association which was formed in 1979 in response to the push for improvements in medical transportation trans-portation and emergency ambulance ambu-lance services. As an active member mem-ber of the association it is their desire de-sire to become an integral part of the health care delivery system in each area served through such programs pro-grams as research, education, advocacy advo-cacy and communications. "With our strong history behind us, we have nowhere to go but forward," for-ward," commented Basinger. "We look forward to the future in Uintah County, continuing to build our fleet of ambulances, increase our employee base and enhance our expertise." "The commitment we have to our medical services to anyone in need regard to the patient's financial customers within our service area is and to do so quickly, unerringly and condition or their ethnic origin," to provide high quality emergency in a cost effective manner without concluded Basinger. :;V:l GO I Gold Cross ambulance has over 300 employees and 30 ambulances ambu-lances in Salt Lake County, Utah County, Juab County and Uintah County.
