Show HIS WORK I 1 ii The editor of the Tribune this morning N tl r asks a great many Democrats how they 1 like the DEMOCRATS remark that so far f1 118 Governor Murrays official career in Utah concerned he is entitled to noth oj I inc hut contempt So far as wo can learn they like it The Tiibunc for otto ot-to ask how Mr P II Lannan liked the remark when writingthe names of tome loading l Democrats Are the gentlemen P mentioned PO dependent upon the retention re-tention of Governor Murray in Utah that for him to fall politically would entail thoir ruin both spiritual and temporal ii i The gentlemen being Democrats they IIq 1 can scarcely pin their political faith to a 1 Republican Governor But since when i i i did it became a part of patriotism to endorse E en-dorse the nets of a Republican Governor and treason to condemn his acts Since when did Governor Murray became the greatest and noblest man that I I merica has everproduced One would imagine from the sickening adulation I which the Tribune gives Governor Murray Mur-ray on every occasion that the existence of not only Utah hut of the Union depended de-pended upon his retention in office Alexander and Cesar and Napoleon weie men whose greatness came near overshadowing over-shadowing the world yet they were hut pigmies compared with Utahs Governor if one may believe his adulator As a patriot it would have men believe that Utahs Governor is far ahead of Washington Li Wash-ington and the men of the Revolution and of Lincoln and those who surrounded I him To compare Governor Murray to Washington would be to insult Governor I Murray and dignify Washington especially t especi-ally when it is remembered that the f Tribune only last Sunday spoke of Washington Wash-ington in these terms We are aware that Georgo Washington and Alexander Hamilton are on record f against the third term So far as Washing ton is concerned ho tried to get the place and failing ho spoke ngainst it Perhaps Governor Murray would be on record against a third term but that the strong men of the party hero which is opposed to him politically insisted that 1 he should not resign We had always l supposed that Governor Murray was so r firm in his determination to do right > and the most righteous thing he ever attempted to do was to resign that all the strong men in the world even though I their strenth were that of Sampson could not swerve him when once his I mind was made up Were these same strong men fully convinced that there was not a man in the Democratic party who could fill the office of Governor of 1 Utah with such efficiency as Governor Murray If such wore the case then I sure it is that the Democratic party is poor indeed What will become of Utah when God calls Governor Murrayto another 1 an-other and better world to perform a greater t and nobler work than he has performed l in Utah Looking at Governor urI ur-I rays invaluable and incomparable work 3 in Utah and knowing the methods by which some of it was accomplished poo L pIe may safely expect to see Lucifer and I ft the onethird of heavens host reinstated I I in their own rights What are the wonderful 14 won-derful works which Governor Murray has I done He did not pass the Edmunds law nor did he procure its passage Wo are told that the marked change in Utah ifi owjng to the fact that Governor Murray i Mur-ray has been hen Has Mr Murray t1 done anything to produce a change j Is it to him or to the Chief Justice and f j the Prosecuting Attorney that the enforcement t en-forcement of the polygamy and unlawful I I cohabitation laws is duo Was it owing to Mr Murrays influence that a Democratic Demo-cratic President was induced to declare in 1j his inaugural address that polygamy in I I the Territories destructive alike of the family relation and offensive to the i moral sense of the civilized world shall bo repressed Mr Murrays work as I Governor of Utah Teiritory is very much r like Mr Murrays resignation as Governor Gover-nor of Utah Territory has never seen the light I Would Mr Murrays organ like to know f the general estimate which his friends r put upon him Here it is The Governor rtII isa very clover fellow and a jovial companion compan-ion but he dont amount to much This is the estimate which the friends of the Governor put upon him notwithstanding the wonderful change that IM been wrought in Utah since he came to Utah Mr Murrays organ tells a great many I things about the editor of the DEMOCRAT I but this is new and wo thank it for the I information j Finally this is the man whoso name has boon sent to Washington as one who if solicited by the Administration would sacri lice himself so as to succeed in office the gen I tleman for whose official acts ho holds only I a feeling of uttor contempt I J To those gentlemen and Democrats I whosent our name to Washington as one who would sacrifice himself BO as to succeed in office the present incumbent of the office of Governor we tender our sincere and heartfelt thanks and we assure as-sure them that if ever any trust shall de 1 yolve upon us and we undertake to resign that trust we will succeed in that if in 4 nothing else Would Mr Murrays organ t 4 undertake to say as much for him It tJ I may ben source of comfort and congratulation t congratu-lation to Mr Murrays organ to know j that although the Governors influence at i Washington is so potent and his work sot j so-t gratefully appreciated ho is a doomed if man politically and that he will yet be I II Hucceeded by a Democratic GovernorS j Governor-S When men become so great and iudis I p nsnble that the destinies of a country depend upon them that country is in danger nod the country to save itself hould depose such men even though they were less dangerous than Mr Mur I 4 amt zr
