Show The SocIal Club Such is the title of the most popular club that was ever seen in Utah I emi em-i braced all classes and all classes joined it for the same motive In that club I there was ever a feeling of fellowship for all who belonged to it There the high and the low were upon the same level there all drank the same inspirationand I there all were filled with a like spirit But people will want to know where this club existed I existed in Salt Lake City in 1865 The president of it was Charley Trowbridge and its object was to give a man a chance to get a drink whenever he wanted it In 1865 prohibition reigned in Salt Lake City and the I only way to evade the law was to become a member of the social club Quite a number did become members of it some four thousand two hundred and eighty persons and their names are written on the scroll of time no the scroll of the club and when the sheets of note papers were pasted together the total length of the names is seventyfive feet The club caused a great many to lay their length upon the ground This lengthy document is in the possession posses-sion of Mr Chris Delhi and by him will bo fed away in the archives of the Masonic Library I is a curious instrument instru-ment and well worth a look Mr Diehl is gathering up many curious documents relating to the city and persons who have any will confer a favor upon Mr Diehl by presenting them to the Masonic Library if they do not care to preserve I them longer |
