Tho dam is located in n swamp, which for many years had boon drained of its surfaco water, except in a few spots. Noting that most of tho swamp was under water, although but llttlo rainfall had occurred, tho curiosity of a neighboring neighbor-ing farmer was aroused and ho made un investigation which led to tho discovery. dis-covery. Tho dam had been constructed construct-ed around tho northern edgo of tho swamp, oxtonding in a zigzag courso, ovidontly to avoid obstruction and to incrcaso Its strength. It is about 125 feet in length and tho top is wida enough for a mnn to walk upon without with-out difficulty, ranging from n foot to two foot in width. Further investigation investiga-tion in the vicinity showed that tho animals had felled a number of trees near the dam to uso In Its construction. construc-tion.
