Show 16 H.l!top Ws SPORTS Dec 6, 1991 at Nellis Strikers end season with tourney win The Hill AFH Strikers Soccer Club endtti this t ar's Mxctr season recently with an impressive win against other military teams in a tournament at Nellis AFH. New The Strikers played four games in the event and took the championship with a record. 3-0- That record doesn't accurately reflect, however, Hill's dominance in the tourney which featured teams from Edwards and Norton AFBs, Calif., and host Nellis. During the event in three-da- y Hill scored 21 goals mid-Novembe- w r, hile limiting opponents to just eight. The top four goal scorers of the tournament were all Hill players Tony Kunce and Scott Bullard, six goals each; Rob Kunce, five; and Tony four. Per-rett- a, Hill's goalie. Willie Mejia. was named the best of the tournament, and the Strikers were the only team to finish unbeaten. "My guys were the greatest," praised Strikers coach Kay Uris. "They played each game like it was their last. Every one on the team con- tributed to the outstanding results of this tournament." Uris only took 12 players to the tournament because of duty commitments, but he said his team never tired. The Strikers kicked off the Nellis tournament in the rain and desert cold against Edwards. Hill easily won Scoring for the Strikers were: Tony 6-- 1. Kunce and Bullard, two goals each; and Perretta and Rob Kunce. The Kunce brothers again teamed up for goals in the Strikers' next match against Norton. Hill won The Kunce brothers finished with two goals apiece. Bullard added two of his own and Perretta put in the other score for the Strikers. Later that same day, the Strikers faced host Nellis. This was the closest game for the Strikers and ended in their tie for the tournament. Scoring for the Strikers were Tony Kunce and Curt Siegel. The tie put the Hill team into the championship for another meeting against Nellis. This time, well rested, Hill took the match Bullard, Rob Kunce and Perretta each scored two goals in the victory. For the 1991 season, the Strikers finished 7-- 4. 6-- 1. I I i 22-8-- 3. SPORTS BRIEFS Center needs volunteer coach The youth center needs a volunteer coach for Hill's youth basketball program. Turkey runners finish race Several runners received a turkey and every runner was awarded a souvenir after the Hess Fitness Center's Annual Turkey Prediction Run Nov. 23. U898873 Down-Fille- tnll The Hill AFB Youth Activity Center will host the Milk Sure Shot basketball skills competition Dec. 14 from 1 to 3 p.m. Fifth through 12th grade boys and girls are eligible to compete in the event. Those who participate in varsity basketball are not permitted to enter. The Milk Sure Shot, sponsored by the local dairy association and the Salt Lake City Parks and Recreation Department, involves shooting baskets from five spots marked on half of the basketball court. The event tests a youngster's speed, shooting, dribbling and rebounding ability within a series of time periods. The competition is open to all base people and their family members.
