Show The Tribune does not appear to appreciate the fact that this paper is not a member of the Mask and Dagger society. It has shown a number of instances of a vinegarlsh disposition because the paper refused to be misguided by Mr. Kearns' feeble organization and stands by the regular party organization. In a vapory effort of a few days ago, it stated something about the management of the Weekly being on the "Smoot pay roll." A reference to pay rolls coming from that source sounds a little bit audacious. There is one pay roll on which the name of this paper has never appeared, and that is the pay roll of the government of the United States. Three names that appear conspicuously con-spicuously on that payroll are Joseph Lippman, United States attorney, Ben Heywood, United States Marshal, and Thomas Kearns, United States Senator. And yet this same trio is in active revolt against the party to which they owe their fealty, and are endeavoring to defeat the party which placed them on the payroll. Political poltroons of their ilk should avoid a reference ref-erence to such delicate subjects. The mere mention men-tion of It is a reminder of their own d.sloyalty in retaining federal positions and at the same time fighting the nominees of the Republican party. All three of these leading spirits of The Castaways should either seek admission back into the portals por-tals of the party of which they are the beneficiaries, benefic-iaries, or, resign their offices. This applies no more to the two federal officeholders mentioned than to Mr. Thomas Kearns, who was elected to the Senate to represent the entire people of the state, and not a mere coterie of malcontents who desert the organization at a critical crisis when the election of a Republican President is involved. |
