To paint a portrait of a governors wife: First sketch an outline of a lovely woman who has supported her husband for many years. Then color in a great deal of charm and enthusiasm. Brush on a radiant smile and add an aura of infectious sparkle. Now frame it with warmth and concern for others. There. You have the exact likeness of the new First Lady of Utah, Colleen Monson Bangerter. Transition time is described by this West Valley mother and homemaker as exciting, bewilderas she ing and overwhelming leaves her comfortable abode near 2800 West and 4100 South, where she and married on Aug. 18, 1953. A week later he was drafted, spending a year in Korea. Colleen worked first as a buyers secretary for the Paris Co. and later was a secretary for Metropolitan Life Insurance Co. Then they moved to Granger and have resided there since. An excellent leader herself, Colleen has served in demanding PTA, community and church positions. Her favorite time-ou- t activities are tennis and golf, two sports she especially enjoys with her husband. son, youngest Adam, will go with the Bangerters to the governors residence, which provides living quarters on the second floor, including bedrooms and family room. Adam will continue at Granger high, where he is active in athletics and a member of the sophomore basketball team. Norman Governor-elec- t Lake to Albert J. and Chloe Shaw Monson, spent her early life in Magna. While attending Cyprus high, she met Norman, whom she the midst of the campaign and post election flurry, there were two marriages in the family, complete with parties and receptions. Packing only a few suitcases, selected pictures and. belongings, Colleen will abandon those walls of comparative privacy to step into a glass-hous- e existence. One personal possession, a home organ, will go with her to provide an occasional escape from the hectic pace as she plays music for her own enjoyment. The weekend of Jan. 11 is the time set for the big move. Once in the Mrs. Bangerter will mansion, have the assistance of a housekeeper and possibly a cook. Her personal secretary is Judy Schiffman, a longtime friend, who will schedule events at the house. Mrs. Bangerter, an excellent hostess with varied experience, will suggest menus and assist in plans for entertaining. Colleen sees her most important role as supportive wife, a position in which she has always been happy. She has played this part for her entire marriage of 31 years, for her husband always has been in a leadership capacity of some sort. Traveling with her husband during the campaign was a marvelous experience, says Mrs. Bangerter. She went with him just about everywhere, doing some of the speaking. Expressing gratitude for the extensive help they received in the campaign, she said the Bangerters were humbled by the support. ' It was a great experience to meet people in small communities, to learn their aspirations, their hopes and their problems, she reflected. How do you prepare to be the states leading lady? There is no prescribed course, mostly training. Mrs. Bangerter attended two orientation conferences for new governors and their wives held in HiHon Head, S.C. and Des Moines, Iowa. A sampling of ideas from retiring wives included hints on correlating her schedule with the governors calendar. She also was warned not to take on too many projects and always to say no or yes, but never maybe. A demanding schedule will be nothing new for Mrs. Bangerter. In won't have much association with Glen Williams, cellist Julie Zumsteg, and pianist Mack Wilbert. The program, part of the Temple Square Concert Series, will begin at 7:30 p.m. and will include selections Poulenc, Bitsch, and by Saint-Saen- by pianist ' s, LAine-Favr- e. Saturday night features a program by Ravel and Prokofieff performed by pianist Spencer Thompson; Sibelius and Chopin performed Senior Respite Care Is Now Available a concerto performed Saturday 7:30 p.m. Spencer Thompson is a member of the Mormon Youth Symphony, and has played with the Utah Symphony as a winner in the Snowbird Summer Arts Institute Concerto auditions. Vincent Humphries is also a member of the Mormon Youth Symphony and has performed with the Utah Symphony.
