Show The National Enterprise , June 16, 197ft The Prince Column by John Prince Page eleven arent any good between nine and five. But really, what business is it of ours what a congressman does sexually on his own time? There seems to me to be another lesson to be learned from all this. Tell the truth!!! When will they learn? A few years ago, a certain local commis- sioner was arrested for drunken driving. Apparently he was really blasted. Do you know what he did? He admitted it. He said he w?as sick about it-we all believed that and guess what? He won big in the next election. 1 dont even know that anyone brought it up as a campaign issue. Its a simple lesson, but damn hard for the politicians to follow. When they catch you drinking too much or sleeping in the wrong bed, admit it. Had Nixon simply come clean early in the Ted game, he would still be President. Kennedy might have been the next president, (an honor that will now be Carters), had he and Letters to the Editor Editor's Note: In response to a feature story entitled, "Mr. Businessman . Your Constitutional Rights End Where OSHA Begins, a National Enterprise subscriber wrote the following letter to Mr. Lorin Dale Martin, assistant deputy attorney in Davis County, Utah and candidate for, Utah Attorney General. Having received a carbon copy of the letter, the Enterprise will share our reader's feelings with you. Dear Mr. Martin: It takes a lot of stamina and fortitude for an individual to stand up against OSHA, or for that mater any other bureaucratic arm of the government. The article in the June 2, 1976 issue of the National Enterprise stating your stand against OSHA was extremely and merits the appreciation of all the businessmen in Utah. It certainly has mine. well-writte- simply come clean. Do you remember when Eisenhower had his stroke? There were all sorts of rumors about speech problems. Some people believed he too am interested in safe working conditions, I find OSHA too much to stomach. Like so many other bureaucratic agencies, OSHA has become an extreme a classic case of the cure being worse than the disease. The possible benefits of OSHA have been greatly overshadowed by the damage created. While couldnt talk. The White House was saying he Prince , Langheinrich, If you & Greer dont think that politics is rough, take a look at poor Allan T. Howe. Here he is a first term Democrat in Congress. He comes home to do a little politicking. Then late in the evening last week, he supposedly makes sexual advances to a certain young girl. We are told that he offers $20.00 for favors and she turns out to be a cop. Since sex is the big subject in Washington, the Congressman finds his name in every newspaper and broadcast in the nation the next day. Now I love garbage as much as the next person, but don't you think events are being a bit hard on Congressman Howe? Do I own all of his time as a taxpayer? When we elected Congressman How'e, (and I must confess that I voted for him), we simply asked him to represent us in Washington. He has been too pro labor for my tastes, but I certainly get the impression that he has been a full time hard working congressman. So, the other night at an hour that could only be called his own, Allan T. Howe apparently offered $20.00 to some girl. Have I as a taxpayer been hurt? I think not. This isnt even close to the Wayne Hays deal. As far as I know, Allan Howe didnt offer to make the girl his secretary at our expense. The simple truth seems to me to be that even congressmen should have a life of their own. Some parts of their life should be private. We the taxpayers are only entitled to know seamy little details insofar as they affect his performance in Congress. With that in mind, it is proper that the drinking problem of Wilbur Mills was brought to light. The Ways and Means Committee is too important to be chaired by a drunk. The taxpayers deserve to know that fact. Money is also too hard to come by these days to be paying for secretaries in Washington who could, etc: I remember talking with a friend of mine at the time. I was asking him what he would do if he were a White House advisor. Would he let the president appear before the public or not? Ill never forget what he told me. John, he said, Id bring the president out in front of the press when the rumors got worse than the FAIRFIELD, New Jersey, -Rapidata, Inc., (OTC 2.675, 3.00) a remote access com- puter service company, announced the appointment of Harvey S. Of the many employers and employees that I am associated with, their opinion of OSHA is unanimous that it should never have been formed, and should be abolished. In a very real sense, this is a problem that Allan T. Howe now has. The unavoidable truth is that he was caught dead to rights. Nothing he can do about that. Hard to know how he could have been quite that stupid, but he was. So what would I do if I were Congressman Allan Howe? Unless I really, really didnt do it, Id just admit it. Say it was a stupid thing, ask to be forgiven, (as though the voters never sin), and go on to the next issue. Once he admits he did what we all know he did, there is nothing more for reporters or The issue sort of Republicans to ask. automatically closes.
