Show THINGS POLITICAL TO THINK OVER elsewhere we carry a brief account of what happened it at the conference of western mining men at denver late last month several pertinent resolutions were nvere adopted at that meeting but none of them we believe carried Z greater justification for its promulgation than resolution no 1 which was unanimously endorsed and which reads as follows this conference of mining men representing tile the mining industry of the entire west protests most emphatically against paternalism and governmental interference with private business and personal liberties and initiative and calls for the abolition of the many unnecessary bureaus commissions and other tax consuming governmental a agencies 11 en both state and national continually seeking b new fields in which to justify salaries at the expense 7 of the public thus adding constantly to the burdens of taxation if things go on oil as they are it will not be long until we shall be paying commissions commissions and bureaus to designate b what is if permissible per for us to eat drink and wear the miner will not be able to select tile the tools he wishes to use in his mining operations nor will lie he be able to ship his ore to the mill or smelter until some commission or bureau of wise guys has decided whether tile the ore is worth shipping or not anywhere and where it shall ago 0 o to it be a grand and glorious feeling if we could elect a set 0 of men just once that would conduct our national state county and municipal business for us in conformity with pre election pledges if we could just feel that the loyal campaign handshake hand shake or the baby kissing maneuvers of those who ask us to trust in their doing the square thing would make good just once but the use of dreaming |
