Show WE FEEL THIS WAY OURSELVES SOMETIMES One of our local business men came across the following in n trade journal jour-nal and handed it in for publication. As it has undergone a revision and has received additions since it was published some time ago in our columns, col-umns, we glodly make room for it: A certain buyer upon receiving a request to send a check to cover his bill, sent the following letter: "For the following reasons I am unable to send you the check nsked for: ."I have been held up, hold down, sandbagged, walked on, sat on, flattened flat-tened out and squeezed. First by tho Government for Federal War Tax, Excess Profit Tax, Liberty Bonds, Thrift Stnmps, Capital Stock Tax, Merchants' License and Auto Tax, and then by every society and organization organiza-tion that the inventive mind of man can invent to extract what I may, or may not, possess. "I have been solicited by the Society Soci-ety of John tho Baptist, the G. A. Rr, the Woman's Relief, tho Navy League, the. RJd Cross, tho Black Cross, tho Double Cross, the Children's Home, the Dorcas Society, tho Y. M. C. A., tho Y. W. C. A., tho Boy Scouts, tho Jewish Relief, and every hospital in town. Then, on top of it all came the Associated Charities and the Sulva-tion Sulva-tion Army. "Tho Government has so governed my business that I don't know who owns it. I am inspected, examined nnd re-examined, informed, required and commanded, so I don't know who I am, whero I am, or why I am here. All I know is I nm supposed to bo un incxhnustiblo supply of money for ev- 1 ery known need, desire or hopo of tho human race. And because I will not sell nil I have and go out nnd beg, 'borrow or steal money to givo away, I have been cussed, discussed, boy- Jcotted, talked to, talked about, lied about, held up, hung up, robbed nnd i nearly ruined, and tho only reason I , nm clinging to life is to see what in II is coming next," |
