Tho International Labor Conference which opened with a uroat llourish of liumpets less than two weeks n,;o, adjourned today without attracting at-tracting the slightest attention. Great things wore expected by this conference, which was summoned by the young Emperor, Em-peror, but its proceedings wore overlooked over-looked in the excitement produced throughout Europe by tho resignation of Prince Bismarck. The proceedings from the oponing to tho closo were of tho simplest character, and now that a linal adjournment has been taken, tho question ques-tion is asked, What has tho conference accomplished? The proceedings were conducted secretly and thoso who participated par-ticipated in them rofuse to reveal their character. Hence there is no one in authority to point out, if such can be done, the purpose served by the meet ing. Baron VonBorlapsch, tho Prussian minister min-ister of commerce presided at the deliberations. delib-erations. His remarks made at various times during the session, had no distinctive dis-tinctive character. The decisions of tho conference will be subject to the approval ap-proval of the governments represented. The debates were conducted ;in French and the reports will be printed in both French and German. The emperor today to-day took farewell of the delegates. |
