March 31 Ponsylvania oil operators aro turning their attention to Wyoming Territory, for which those interested are claiming that big things aro in prospect. Tho oil fields are located lo-cated in the central part of tho Territory. Oil was found thore several years ago, but tho Territory has never been developed devel-oped to much extent. Now, however, an energetic effort is to be made in that direction di-rection by several companies, and tho coming summer promises to bo a livoly one thoro in field operations. Knol y and Treat, of Bradford, have secured by purchaso a block of about 00,000 acres on which they will put down wells. Tho Standard Oil comnany has bought up 100,000 acres in tho Big Horn o'.l bns;n, and Pittsburg operators have also gotten hold of several thousand acres in the lower portion of the Territory. A company com-pany of Pittsburg men is now nliout completing the purchase ot 70,000 or 7.i,000 acres on which to start operations this spring. Whole townships of thirty-six thirty-six square miles have been bought up by oil men, so that if Wyoming's Holds are not properly developed it will not be the fault of the operators. What are known as tho Landor Wells, located south of the Wind Kiver Reservation, nnd owned by a Salt Lake City company, which have been Bhut down for three or four years, aro to be opened up again, and it is thought they willgiveoutadailyproduct of 700 barrels. Thev aro shallow wells, being only 350 feet deep. Their product is an exceedingly tine quality of lubricating lubrica-ting oil, that would be worth in Pittsburg, Pitts-burg, it is claimed, $12 a barrel. Both lubricating nnd illuminating oils nre found in Wjoming, tho latter being a-bout a-bout the same m quality as Washington (Pa.) oil. |
