Show EAST Elementary News A new light has been thrown upon the subject of insect control con-trol in Iron county by the" Third grade students at the East Elementary Ele-mentary school. In the process of a unit in elementary science these young entomologists came up with the idea that if every grade in school worked on such a unit and collected insects for mounting as they themselves have done, there would be no insects left to worry about. A look at the many "bottled bugs" in Miss Velma Williams' third grade room and on the display shelves in the hall at the East Elementary school would seem to make this idea prove logical. Things are happening down in the First grade, too. Mrs. Lex Wilkinson's first graders went for a thrilling airplane ride last week at the local airport. With the assistance of Mrs. Frank Sutherland, Mrs. Fred G. Murray, Mrs. Grant Hunter and Principal Thomas J. Abplanalp, the group was taken to the airport in private pri-vate cars and taken up in a 170 Cessna piloted by Royce Knight. From up high they were able to point out their own school and a few of their homes besides getting a birdseye view of Cedar City and the surrounding mountains. moun-tains. This week little Clint Mathe- son invited the two First grade rooms to visit his father's farm to become acquainted with farm animals and farm crops. |
