Show THE OGDEN VALLEY NEWS Page 10 “= July 1, 2006 Zions Has Not Forgotten Who Keeps Them in Business By Chris Stevenson Many will remember the story of the Hants family driven from their home a few months ago in the dead of night by a fire that raged through the dwelling completely engulfing and consuming it. At 1:30 in the morning the Dave Jenkins family helplessly watched their home and all of their belongings go up in fire and smoke. Good news out of all of this tragedy was that this same family, a short 12 hours later, was back into a home with a full refrigerator, overflowing pantry, and all the household furniture and appliances ey needed. However, there is a sequel to the story that needs to tbe told. After the fire, Dave Jenkins had the arduous task of dealing with insurance companies and trying to get a new loan to rebuild the family home. Not only did he run into problems with his insurance company, which seemed to be delaying payment for construction, he was having an especially difficult time finding a lender that would provide a new construction loan without charging high rates and fees. He could not find a company that could help given his circum- stances. When Mr. Sherm Losee, President of Zions Bank North Area, became aware of the matter, he immediately called his new construction loan manager Suzie Hassle. Within a few hours, Suzie had made contact with Mr. Jenkins and he was on his way to the perfect loan to rebuild the family home. Hassle was able to fashion a loan that had the right amount of money, the a interest rate possible, and close to zero fee: Mr. Jenkins worked directly with Deana, the bank’s Valley branch manager, and now can’t say enough good things about her and the bank’s willingness to help. When asked why the bank would be so accommodating, Mr. Losee responded, “It’s just the right thing to do.” From all indications, Zions was not looking for some limelight out of all of this. They felt strongly about quietly stepping in and giving a helping hand. One neighbor said, “It is refreshing to see a business o_o on helping people—not just piling up pro The Jenkins family will start construction on their new home in a few weeks. They are the first to acknowledge the wonderful generosity from the community, which includes Zions Bank. WSU’s New MHA Degree Approved by Regents Starting this fall, Weber State University will offer a Master of Health Administration degree in response to demand from local health care providers The degree, which was formally approved by the Utah Board of Regents in June, is the only graduate program of its kind currently available iin the state. Three years ago the college began offering a graduate Lae in health administration. ard from local hospital CEOs and other professionals in the health care field that there was a real need for a graduate degree in this area,” said Ken Johnson, chair of the Department of Health Administration and program director for the MHA. “This degree is tailored to meet the needs of health care supervisors and managers who are interested in pursuing executive leadership roles in hospitals and medical facilities.” Johnson said the degree also will appeal to students who earned a bachelor’s degree or graduate certificate in health administration and would like to further their education. In putting together the proposal for the new degree program, WSU faculty spent two years researching similar programs at other institutions, looking at what those programs were doing well. Faculty also worked closely with the WSU Master of Business Administration program. Johnson said the university might consider offering a dual degree combining an MHA with an MBA in the near future. Like the university’s MBA program, classes will be offered in the evenings at the Weber State University Davis campus in Layton to accommodate students working full-time during the day. The faculty will include WSU health administration professors with extensive experience and background in the health care field along with current hospital and health care administrators. “Health care managers working in a variety of specialized fields such as nursing, radiology, business offices, and other areas will gain a greater perspective for the overall issues involved in managing health care,” Johnson said. “We also hope to attract physicians who are interested in pursuing management positions.” h full-time health care supervisors and managers expected to make up a significant portion of the enrollment, Johnson believes classes will interactive environment where students will learn from the experiences shared by their peers.
