The 2006 Fine Art booths will be located in the Huntsville Park and the Craft booths will be located at Chris’. Because quality is a key feature of the 2006 event, all vendors will be juried in. This traveling exhibit, on loan from the Utah Arts Council, will be on display June 22 through July 28, 2006 in the L.S. Peery Education Center at the Ogden Nature Center. Viewing the exhibit is free, while general admission to the Nature Center is $3 for adults and $1.25 for children. The goal of this exhibition is to bring together the works of serious artists who are Take a Walk on the Wild Side with the Layton Wild Bird Center Join the Layton Wild Bird Center Saturdays for a free nature/bird walk. We I om the Layton Wild Bird Center at 8:00 a.m. unless posted otherwise. Our bird walks are a great family activity and a wonderful way to introduce children to the world of nature. Expert birder and Division of Wildlife Resources volunteer naturalist Bill Fenimore leads the bird walk. The cost of the nature/bird walks is enthusiasm. We take care of the rest. The art of depicting animals is an ancient one. Prehistoric men depicted animals on cave walls in an attempt to gain power over their hunt. These paintings can still be seen in Lascaux, France; Altamira, Spain; Africa and Australia. Fremont and Anasazi Indians of Utah also drew animal images as a form of spiritual empowerment. The ancient Egyptians drew and modeled animals with great care based upon the observation of nature. Today, art classes are often seen at the Zoo painting and drawing from life. Wildlife artists such as James Audubon have been instrumental in raising public awareness of endangered species.
