Show March Of Dimes Drive Gets Underway Del Humphrey Appointed City Chairman, Will Be Assisted By Committee Members ; Drive To Extend From Jan. 15 To January 31 Del Humphrey of this city has been appointed chairman chair-man of the annual March of Dimes campaign which began m this city Wed nesday, Jan. 15, and is to continue through January 31. His appointment was made by J. W. Thornton of Provo, Utah county chairman. The local campaign is part of the nationwide appeal of the National Na-tional Foundation for Infantile Paralysis for funds to continue the fight against poliomyelitis. Selected' to assist the city chairman chair-man with the drive are: Dave ! Friel, secretary-treasurer; Ray Klauck, representing the Jaycees; J. D. Ford, Lions; Arnold Barney, V. F. W., Glenn Webb, Hobble Creek Riding Club; Mrs Earl B. Sumsion, Women's Federated clubs. As in the past, March of Dimes coin collection boxes will be placed at convenient places throughout the city. In the light of widespread public knowledge of The National Foundation's tremendous tre-mendous achievements in recent years, Mr. Humphrey said, the local appeal committee is expecting expect-ing a greater response this year than ever before. "Poliomyelitis," he pointed out, "is one of the most expensive diseases dis-eases known to medicine. Hospitalization Hospita-lization for a single patient costs more than $2,500 a year. Some cases require continuing care for several years. Not only must victims vic-tims of past epidemics receive continuing care, but each year's outbreaks add new names to the steadily growing list. Few families fami-lies can meet the cost of extended polio treatment. Through the annual an-nual March of Dimes, treatment and care can be assured for all polio victims regardless of age, race, creed or color." |
