Clark Griffith, Ogden Air Logistics Center vice commander, was the guest speaker at the graduation ceremony. He said that it takes three things to be an effective leader: honesty, development and planning. The general said honesty is very important and that telling a is just as bad as telling a lie. He warned the graduates not to expect the truth from others if they themselves lie. General Griffith told the graduates not to expect to be instant leaders once they graduate from the school. SSgt. Joseph D. Findley was awarded the John Levitow Honor Graduate Award for Class 91-Sergeant Findley was the top student in a class of 26. He was selected for his outstanding scholastic efforts and his demonstrated leadership. Distinguished graduates for the class were: SSgt. Grace L. Paul from the 84th Radar Evaluation Squadron and Sgt. Bradley W. Blevins from the 2721st Munitions Maintenance and Test Squadron. Sergeant Blevins also received the Communicative Skills Award. Other award winners were SSgt. Richard R. Mer-ritof the 3568th Recruiting Squadron, who received the Leadership and Management Award and the Commandant's Award; and SSgt. Darin J. Barth, of 84th RADES, who received the Military B. half-trut- h NCOs. Leadership is something that is developed, he said, and graduates should apply what they learned in school in their section. To be a good leader one must always have a plan, General Griffith said. If a person doesn't have a plan, he or she shouldn't be in charge. He defined excellence as surpassing in accomplishment and achievements, and going above and beyond the call of duty. Excellence, he said, is vital to maintaining the top quality Air Force that's needed in the face of a decreasing budget. Because Air Force members are now expected to do more with less, there is no room for an "it's not my job" attitude. He challenged the graduates to strive for excellence in everything they do.
