Featured in the profiles is Millard Mil-lard School District for its Psychological Psycho-logical Services during the school year 1967 in which seventy Millard students, from pge four through graduating high school seniors, participated. par-ticipated. The Millard program was acclaimed ac-claimed es one of the 150 outstanding out-standing rojects of Title I of the Elementary and Secondary Education Educa-tion Act of 1965 by the Department of Health. Education and Welfare, Bureau of Elementary j'nd Secondary Secon-dary Education. The program brought four trained train-ed psychologists to the district at least twice a month to administer preventive and treatment services to the students. More than one-fourth of the Millard Mil-lard students receiving psychological psycholo-gical services in 19G7 were referred by their parents. Louise Bennett Federal Programs Director of Millard, says the close cooperation between staff and parents proved to be one of the major strengths of the program. Students were taught how to cope with their learning difficulties, behavior be-havior problems and social relationships. rela-tionships. The program cost $7,000 of which $4,000.00 were Title I funds. A similiar program is being conducted con-ducted this school year, according to Mrs. Bennett. Dr. Hugh Allred of the Child Development Department Depart-ment of Brigham Young University and his assistant, Dr. Bill Rice, are in the Delta area every Tuesday to conduct an Education Center for parents and teachers. Parents and teachers of students who are known to have either learning difficulties or social problems prob-lems meet together at the center to discuss possible ways to help the students. The central part of the program, of course, is the student. stu-dent. The student with problems meets with, Dr. Allred and Dr. Rice fir discussion. Later, Dr. Allred or Dr. Rice meets with the student's parents andor teacher. "This year, through the center, we're reaching more people who have expressed a need for these services," Mrs. Bennett said. A total of $8,000.00 has been, budgeted bud-geted for 1968-69 serviecs she said. Some of this is used to purchase books for use by the parents she added. Support our advertisers, support YOU.
