Aside from action already taken by the Commercial club in the matter, business men of Salt Lake City are individually in-dividually urging the Utah Congressional Congres-sional delegation a.t "Washington to make every effort to have the "United States assay office here retained in service. This institution is a growing ono and is mooting a necessity that was keenly felt in mining circles prior to its establishment. Added to this consideration con-sideration 1b the fact that maintenance of the office involves an annual outlay of approximately $16,000, which is an item appreciated by merchants, Tho Tribuno hris received a letter .from T. .L. Schurmeier of St. Louis, inclosing communications from Senator Moses E. fJlapp and Representative F. 0. Stevens, announcing their co-operation in the plan to have assay offlceH nnd rcflncricH connected -with United States mints throughout the mining states of the west continued in tho Bcrvice. Mr. Schurmeier also says that there is a concerted movement in this direction, direc-tion, which ho has every hope will prove successful. |
