of a few isolated incidents of tampering with Girl Scout Cookies in Eastern states many questions have been raised concerning the safety of the cookies according to Geneva Swarts executive director of the Utah Girl Scout Council The council has issued a statement to help clarify the situation “Our main concern has always been the safety of a-- our Girl Scouts our programs and our product" she stated According to Swartz Girl Scouts of the USA believe the tamperings are isolated incidences “The evidence of tampering has been in seven girl Scout Coouncils with fewer than 20 boxes of cookies” she said “Our cookie order was not placed with the bakery until last week The FDA has given a clean bill of health to our cookie supplier" she said At this time the Utah Girl -- — ii tjil plans to meet --- its scheduled time of cookie delivery throughout Utah April 6 she said “Our staff of volunters throughout the state will be monitoring the cases of cookies at each point of de- “This annual cookie sale is our main source of income” Swartz stated “It affects the lives of thousands of girls throughout the state” According to Swartz the profits of the cookie sale provide staff and maintenance of summer camps scholarships to camp special program opportunities for girls transportation assistance and training opportunities for 2500 adult volunteers “Girls help support their many
