Show USPA Gains Award From Bond Director Mr. Wendell E. Gile, Sr. Vice President, Continental Continent-al Bank & Trust Co., volunteer volun-teer State chairman for the United States Savings Bond Division presented the U.S. Department of the Treasury award to the members of the Utah State Press Association at their annual Winter Convention awards luncheon on Sunday, Sun-day, Feb. 21, 1971 at the Hotel Utah for patriotic support of the United States Savings Bonds Program. Pro-gram. "The Savings Bonds Program in the State of Utah has sustained and met high objectives for more than a quarter-century. In 1970 new standards stand-ards of achievement were attained so as to be recognized rec-ognized by the U. S. Secretary Sec-retary of Treasury and the National Savings Bond Director. Di-rector. These accomplishments could not have been met without the constant exposure ex-posure of the Savings Bond Program and we greatly appreciate ap-preciate the cooperation of members of Utah Press Association "who run our materials as a public service. ser-vice. The Savings Bond Program Pro-gram is a public service program that does indeed return a profit to the community com-munity in that it helps create a tremendous reservoir res-ervoir of spending poten-ii tial. Of the record high of $52.4 billion in United States Savings Bonds being be-ing held by Americans, it is estimated that 230 million mil-lion is held by the citizens of Utah who are served Iby your newspapers. The 230 million earns $10,350,-000 $10,350,-000 interest annually. This interest acrual alone will match many a large payroll" pay-roll" said Mr. Gile making the presentation. Mrs. Kathleen Meikle, State Director of the U.S. Savings Eonds said in a report re-port to Volunteer County Chairman Robert A. Dal-ton Dal-ton that the citizens of Grand County hold an estimated es-timated $345,000 which earns approximately $15, 525 interest annually.
