Back in December, even before it was incorporated (see article about city council regarding the incorporation), Rod and Laurel Davey, of Salt Lake City, made the first donation to the Monticello Foundation in the name of the late Keith Redd. The Daves wrote a letter with the donation giving the reason for their donation and why it was made in Redds name. The letter stated: In recognition of the friendship and the respect we had for the way Keith gave of himself to others, we want to make a contribution to the Monticello Foundation. Property owners in Monticello, the Daveys came to love this area through association with Keith Redd and visiting the Grist Mill Inn. The basement will be tied to the gymauditorium via an underground tunnel, to eliminate the need for con- ventions going through harsh San Juan winter-weath- er and also for ADA requirements. The new facilities will meet all federal and state requirements for ADA and v' ;svn,-- - k Keele Johnson named to legislature With the appointment and expected confirmation of Lyle Anderson as District Judge, Governor Leavitt named Keele Johnson to the legislative seat Anderson won in the last election. Challenges Johnson said he sees the state facing a real challenge in the near future. We have a very healthy state but local businesses want to expand here, some want to start small businesses and we need to get light industry started in San Juan County, he said. The infrastructure needs to be in place to get this development. We need good highways, a reliable tele- communications system, good water and sewer systems, active beautifica- tion and recreations systems.
