Show THE SAN JUAN RECORD Wednesday January 20, Page 2 1992 Editorial Foundation is a step ahead The creation of the Monticello Foundation is both unique and for a Western Comfar-sight- ed munity. Eastern cities and towns have used foundations for decades " - a way to have private foundations, such as Ford and Carnegie, help fund community projects. We have not heard of many other communities, especially those of Monticellos size and population, which have undertaken this form of action. There are literally hundreds of foundations which give millions and millions of dollars to other foundations for hundreds of thousands of projects. We applaud the city council, Diane Nielson, Dr. Roger Plothow and all the others involved in setting up the Monticello Foundation. It is a unique move for a small community to and far-sight- ed undertake. Wintertime caution needed This has been an unusual winter. We have more than the annual snowfall for January and now we have foggy days with freezing rain ... very unusual! We hope travelers through San Juan County as well as the residents, will take a few more minutes to drive safely and carefully through this winter wonderland. Enjoy the scenery a little, but keep you eyes on situathe road and be acutely aware of black-ic- e tions. WE WANT YOU ALL TO STAY HEALTHY AND SAFE. Dont you want to stay around for spring? It should be extravagant this year!! Traffic safety is important at all times but especially during special driving conditions such as Extra we have here in during wintertime. cau- tion and vigilance is needed. would be interested in send- Letters To The Editor The Record welcomes letters from its readers on any subject of public interest. Unique Perez-CooWhitegate Farms Montrose, Colo. Dear Editor, The tax paying citizens of San Juan County need to determine if the tail is wagging the dog in health care. There are several questions that need asked by the public and answered by those who are account- able. I agree with Marilyn Lymans comments last week 100 percent. In addition, I have some serious concerns regarding k physician recruiting and contracting. Why in the world would the Health Care Board guarantee $150,000 per year net income before taxes to the prodigal son, Dr. James D. Redd, who just a few years ago, voluntarily left Blanding -and left that community and the hospital in a Are tremendous bind? peoples memories that short? In the Record article relating the Boards actions in agreeing to hire Dr. Redd, it said he promised to cover weekend emergencies at the Blanding Emergency Care Center. The Board had better get that promise in writing in his contract. In talking with people in Moab this week, several of them said that he was rarely there to cover the Emergency Room when as- signed. Since the taxpayers subsi- dize the clinic space for doctors in Monticello and Blanding, why then do we turn around and guarantee their income also? More letters on page 16 |
