About twenty years ago a Republican congress and president put a tariff on tin plate which encouraged en-couraged several men to build tin plate plants and begin its manufacture. Tin plate is simply iron or steel sheets dipped in molten tin. The Democratic Demo-cratic party 'elected a president and congress more on this "outrageous and merciless" tin plate tariff than any other one thing. For many years we had been paying Great Britain $18,000,000 per annum for tin plate. But Democratic forebodings were not realised.
