Show Thursday, May 20, 1954 THE SUN-ADVOCA- Page Seven i Wattis Elementary Students Treated k To Huntington Canyon Picnic Friday The first, second, third, fourth and fifth grades of the Wattis elementary school enjoyed a picnic in Huntington Canyon Friday under the leadership of their teachers, Mae K. Olsen and Sedalia Kendrick. The teachers were assisted by the following parents and neighbors : Mr. and Mrs. Lee Shaw, Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Shaw, Mr. and Mrs. Curtis Grubbs, Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Shaw, Mrs. Darel Behunin, Mrs. Raymond Barker, Mrs. Noldan Olsen and All Reedy Kendrick. children enjoyed the outing along with the other children. Seven cars were used to transport the children and adults to the canyon picnic grounds. The Wattis furnished the ice cream for the picnic. Orson Oliver of Elmo was a visitor at the Eldon Harward home Friday morning. Newlyweds Mr. and Mrs. Clark Jensen of Aurora spent two days at the home of the Clayton Smiths before leaving for Las Vegas and Reno, Nevada, on their honeymoon. Mr. Jensen and Mrs. Smith are brother and sister. Bud Ludwig was a business visitor in Wattis last week. Mrs. Harold Olsen and Mrs. Nolan Olsen, accompanied by Mr. and Mrs. Osier Olsen and son, Michael, Mrs. Albert Olsen and Simon Olsen attended the funeral for their uncle, Carl Berg, of Cas-lt- e Dale on Saturday, May 15th. John Piacetelli, who now makes his home in Salt Lake City, spent Saturday in Wattis visiting his many friends. He worked as a machinist here for the Lion Coal Corporation for many years, but he retired last year. Mrs. Fern Shaw, Mrs. Dorothy Olsen and Mrs. Hazel Smith attended the Carbon council meeting at the Price Junior high library, Wednesday evening and the installation of the new officers for the coming year. Final plans were made for the delegates who plan to attend the state convention to be held at Ogden June 7th and 8th. P-T- A Mr. and Mrs. Lee Shaw and twins, Neldon and Nelda, and Kirt and Evelyn Rich drove to Nine Mile over the week end to visit relatives. While there they planted a large vegetable garden. Postmaster Josephine Wheeler returned home Saturday evening from the postmasters convention which was held at Kanab, and reported an excellent meeting. On Thursday a five bus caravan left for a trip to the north rim of the Grand Canyon, Arizona with the delegates. Host to the convention and this trip was Claud Ms Glazier of Kanab and one of of the three elected the Utah chapter, National Association of Postmasters of the United States, also reports Feme Braker of Wellington was elected secretary for the third year. Tony Kontgas, Wiley W. Whecl-i- s and Rudy Kendrick drove to Grand Junction, Colorado, as visiting members of the Carbon and Joppa Lodges over the week end, returning Sunday afternoon. When Claude Pierce reported for work Monday morning, he was vice-preside- nt - Church Woman Elect New Officers at Fellowship Program May Fellowship Day was observed last Friday afternoon at the Community Methodist church of Price, under the sponsorship of the Carbon Council of Church Women. Mrs. Nellie Duncan was chairman for the occasion. A covered dish luncheon preceded the sendee and this phase of the observance was presided over by the retiring president, Mrs. Edna Averett. Guests introduced at the luncheon were Mrs. J. K. Houston, state president of the Council, and Mrs. Caves, both of Provo. Mrs. Houston gave an interesting panel discusion on the Intermountain School for Navajo Indians at Brigham City. Other guests were The Reverend and Mrs. Gus Shepherd of the Price Greek Orthodox church, the Reverend Bert Heitman of the Assembly of God church and the Reverend Albert Searffe of the host church. Introduced also were Mrs. Margaret Reeves, vice president of the state council, and Mrs. Marion Robinson, past vice president of the state council. Officers elected for the ensuing year were: President, Mrs. Stella Klapakis, Price; vice presidents, Mrs. Nellie Duncan, Price; Mrs. Eileen Baily, Kenilworth, and Mrs. Lucile Kuhns, Dragerton; secretary, Mrs. Leva Hall, Helper, and treasurer, Mrs. Walter Boren of Price. Following the luncheon an interesting program was enjoyed with Mrs. Nellie Duncan in charge. Readers taking part were Mrs. Duncan, Mrs. Kuhns, Mrs. Boren and Mrs. Marion Robinson. The invocation was given by Reverend Heitman. Solos were rendered by Mrs. Kay Pappas who sang The Lords Prayer, by Mrs. Robert Hassell and Mrs. 'Fred Pleasants. Reverend Searffe gave an inspiring address on the theme for the The Christian Womans day, Trusteeship. The bendiction was pronounced by the Reverend Shepherd. You may plant hardy varieties as soon as the soil dries out in the spring. Semi-hard- y ones can be planted rom one to three weeks later, depending on the weather. Planting of both may continue to May 1 for some crops, and to May 15, June 1, June 15 or July 1 for othy er hardy and crops. semi-hard- Many peas, onions, radishes, spinach, turnips, kohlarbl and other hardy (Group A) and semihardy (Group B) seeded crops are already planted, as well as asparagus, rhubarb, broccoli and cabbage plants. This publication contains the latest list of recommended varieties as well as timely tips on planning, planting, and growing vegetables in a home garden. (5) spacing between rows and in the row, and (6) feet of row and amount of seed or number of plants needed in an average garden for a family of five.
