Show Dead Comrades Are To Be Remembered "V . I The fund of $100,000 to be raised by the American Legion as a permanent perm-anent endowment to decorate the graves of the American soldiers who died in Europe, will remain in the United States and will be administered admin-istered by a committee appointed under the supervision of the Legion, Lemuel Bolles, Legion National adjutant, adju-tant, has announced. The money will be raised from the 11,000 Legion posts in the country and added to an amount already donated for the same purpose by private bequests. National Headquarters of the Legion Le-gion have been advised that there are 32,000 graves of American soldiers sol-diers who died abroad in the service r- of their country. Of these 31,400 are in France and Belgium, 140 in Scotland, 40 in Ireland and one sailor sail-or buried in Spain. Although the . government of the United States has established cemeteries for the Bol-dir Bol-dir dead, the Legion feels that it wuld be a fitting tribute to these heroes for representatives from among their former comrades at arms to visit the graves on Memorial Day .each year. It is to this purpose that the income from the endowment"; fund will be dedicated. The national treasurer of !the American Legion will be the immediate imme-diate recipiant of the donations. It is hoped to have the fund completed in time to be available Memorial Day (this year. |
