They went to Los-Angel-to see Miss Agnes Mitch-ell, who has been studying fash-ion designing at Woodbury col-lege the past year, and who will come home with them to visit two weeks with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. William L. Mitchell. The Carrigans went to San Jose to see Mrs. Carrigan's aunt, Mrs. Sylvia Schoepf, and also spent some time at San Francisco and the fair. The group expected to be home this week-end- . Returning home Sunday from the northwest were Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Seal of Coperton. Mrs. Seal was away five weeks, being call-ed to Seattle because of the ill-ness of an uncle, Harry J. Quinn, which proved fatal. She was a guest at the home of a brother-in-la- w and sister, Mr. and Mrs. D. J. Marston. Mr. Seal joined her for three weeks and together they visited three days with Cap-tain and Mrs. Glen Nell at Oak Ridge, Oregon, former Bingham residents, who took the Seals to Crater Lake, Ore. Mr. and Mrs. Seal also motored to Long Beach, Wash., and visited at Mt. Ra-nie- r, Wash. During Mrs. Seal's absence ' from the Copperton branch of the Salt Lake county library, Miss Margaret Ireland acted as librarian. Tomorrow evening, August 10, the Altar society of the Holy Rosary Catholic church will give a dance at the Copperfield school. The public is invited to attend, Mrs. R. A. Murano, president, has announced. Mrs. Anna Hull, who has been visiting her daughter, Mrs. Dal-las Anderson of Copperton the past several weeks, left Friday for her home in Olive View, Cal. Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Takis of this city and Mr. and Mrs. Wil-liam Dokas of Salt Lake City will leave Saturday evening for Seattle, Washington where they i . o FUNERAL SERVICES HELD SUNDAY FOR ACCIDENT VICTIM Funeral services for Eli Fearer Webster, 31, of Riverton, injured fatally July 31 in a mine accident at Lark, wore conducted Sunday afternoon in the Riverton L.D.S. Second ward chapel. Burial was in Riverton cemetery. Detroit are a half game apart as of this morning (Thursday). I still like Cleveland. I said before the season that Feller would win between 2f) and 30 and he is go-ing alter his 18th today. St. Louis continues to be the giant killer in the American League. They have taken turns knocking De-troit, Cleveland and Boston out of first place. They beat Boston four straight about a month ago and the boys from Beantown have never gotten over it. Cleve-land opens a six game stand with them this week, so look out, In-dians. The suicide of Willard Hersh-berge- r, the Cincinnati second string catcher, semis ht have shaken the ball club a little. Too bad that this boy took his job so seriously, but the general run has come down withT the jitters in the field. FUUT five errors m in second place j, iu! bad Idaho Falls is the in the league right now. ' I see where Ogden play,, Kansas City Monarch',; 19th. "Satchel" Pag8, lh' negro pitcher, will be on i mound for the Monarch A if you have never seen'p, pilch, you have yel to livi can really hum that ball, The House of David plays Lake on the lath and Gev on the 21st. The whisker, haven't shown in Bingham, 1934, so there should b a crowd. So until next week, So Lone,, A I. of fans don't realize the pressure a ball player is under in a tough pennant drive. If they did there would be more back slapping and less biting. F.ric McNair of the Chicago White Sox asked to be put on the voluntarily retired list the other day because of the jitters. This fellow was one of the stars of the team last year, but this year he got off to a bad start and the fans got on him, and he started pressing. The result was he couldn't relax, so he had to quit. No game in the wiii Id is exactly like bast-ball- , where you arc a hero uiie day and a tram) the next. The Salt Lake Bees are having their troubles. Pitching has gone sour, and the rest of the team t SPORTS HERE and THERE (Continued from page one) American Legion team to the state championship. He looks like a good prospect as an banged one against the fence for a double and got a single besides. This boy Nyman, a rookie from the Cache valley league, has been wearing that ball out for Brig-ham City. Plays the outfield. After that loss to Helper, Gem-mell will probably draw a new bunch of fans. You know, the kind of people that like to stand around and look at a bad acci-dent. Our American Legion team was eliminated in a close ball game to Brigham City, !! to 7, after having beaten Provo, one of the nt favorites, 8 to 4. Helper beat Brigham 8 to 7 in 12 innings for the champion-ship. Venturelli, the Helper pitch-er, struck six men out in the last two innings and in the twelvth got his three men with a man on second and third and with no-body out. That is what I call pitching when the chips are down. The winners go to Ariz-ona to take part in the regional play off. That American League race is as close as the bread in a drug store sandwich.
