Show Melancholy Accident. Yesterday Yester-day afternoon two littlo girls, children of Mr. Homer Brown of the 7th ward in this city, were playing in a large log barn, in which a quantity of hay was stored, when the hay caught fire, as supposed from some matchee which the children are believed to have had. The building was soon wrapt in flames and the unfortunate little ones were burned to death. Some little time elapsed before much aid arrived at the place, and the efforts of the distracted mother to rescue the children were as unavailing as they were heart-rending. Considerable property was destroyed, but the destruction of the property was nothing compared with the sad fate of the girls. They were aged respectively sis and seven years. After the fire had nearly burned itself out the charred remains of the unfortunate little ones were found. Every exertion was made to save their lives and to extinguish the flames, by the men who rapidly assembled, assem-bled, but all was ineffectual. |
