Show February 12, 2003 - The Springville Herald - Page Nine (SIM ODD The year 2003 started out with a bang for 21 Springville Spring-ville Seals who, on January 17-18, trekked to Logan and had some of the best swims of their lives. Despite being plagued by the flu, the Seals still managed to take home a 3rd place trophy for the team. The Bridgerland open proved to be just what many of the Seals needed to secure their spot at the upcoming Utah State Junior Olympic Championship in March, blasting their way to 62 best times in all. Competing in the 10-and-under boys' events, Calvin Clark swam 6-6 and with a time of 1:35.07 in the 100 backstroke, grabbed his first state cut, taking 2 minutes 63 seconds off his best time. Trachelle Tanner, age 11, took home a first-place trophy, tro-phy, placing first overall in the women's 11-year-old division and swam 7-7 lifetime life-time bests. Daniel Simmons, age 12, took first place overall in the men's 12-year-old division, garnering a total of 109 points for the team. Other swimmers achieving achiev-ing personal best times at the meet were Sarah Clark (12, Springville) 500 free 6:18.-25, 6:18.-25, 200 free 2:21.96, 100 breast 1:21.31 and 50 fly 34.86.
