The Devils started strong with solid offensive play from Richard Bird and Zac Erekson, however, it was their defense that made the game so exciting. The Devils frustrated the Bruins into seven turnovers in the first quarter alone. Nevertheless, Neverthe-less, the Bruins made up for it and held on to a two-point lead ending the first quarter. Bird came out in the second quarter "unstoppable" and on "fire" scoring fifteen points before the quarter finally came to a close. Senior Glen Young also pitched in, adding a few of his own points as well as have a BIG presence in the Teach kids io fish At least 40 new adult volunteers are needed to teach six- to 13-year-olds about fishing and aquatic resources in communities stretching from Brigham City to Payson this spring and summer. Youth fishing clubs have been established in Brigham City, Ogden, Clearfield, Farmington, Centerville, Bountiful, Murray, South Jordan, Spanish Fork, Orem and Payson in 2003 and each club needs volunteers to help. Trying their hardest, the Devils did everything in their power to keep up, but again came out empty handed. Bird ended the game with twenty points, also receiving help from Young who added ten of his own points. The Devils play in Provo this week, in what is sure to be a very exciting game. don't need a lot of fishing experience to volunteer. "After training, regardless of the person's fishing skills, I'm sure they'll feel completely com-pletely comfortable getting together with their youth fishing club," said Andrew Cushing, community fisheries biologist for the Division of Wildlife Resources. Volunteer training will be held Feb. 22, from 9 a.m. to noon, at the Department of Natural Resources, 1594 W. North Temple in Salt Lake City. Additional training sessions ses-sions may be scheduled in March. After training, volunteers will spend about two hours once a week, through the spring andor summer, teaching teach-ing children about fish and fishing by fishing with them at a local water. Cushing says a number of rewards await those who volunteer. "When they see the look on a kid's face, the first time he or she catches a fish, it'll probably make their whole summer," he said. ' ' "Long term, I think they'll feel rewarded by knowing they've helped plug these kids back into a natural environment and have increased in-creased the stewardship these community youth fishing clubs have for their own waters." The clubs of about 40 to 80 children each will be formed by April. To volunteer, volun-teer, or for more information, informa-tion, call Cushing at (801) 538-4774.
