Enjoy Trip To Midwest By Sybil Packer Ronald and Faye Bell have tour returned from an eight-da- y to the midwest where they visited many of the LDS Church historical sites and other locations. They -making saw the Liberty Jail, visited Nauvoo, 111., and Independence, Mo., the birthplace of Mark Twain; New Salem, 111., the boyhood home of Abraham Lincoln; and the Old State Capitol in Springfield, 111., that has been completely restored and is now an historical site. The Bells also spent some time in Chicago and in Warsaw, Ind., where they picked up some canoes for sale in Ron's shop. Ron and Faye, both antique buffs, stopped at virtually every antique shop along the route and were delighted to find chairs to complement their dining room table and also an antique high chair. Aaronic Priesthood awards were presented Sunday to Quentin Rutherford, Michael Loosle, Jeff Winget. John Warnick, Mark Ford, Gary Warner, Steven Loosle, Leo Crossley, David Garce. David Forrester, Scott Elwood, Jerry Crossley, Tracy Phillips. David Warner, Thad Forrester and Blair Packer. Ivan Coleman, brother of Orvil Coleman, was a "uest of the Colemans from his home in Mar Vista, Calif. He was here to attend the funeral services of history- Elmer Coleman. Thirty-fou- r relatives of Mr. Coleman met for lunch after the funeral services at the Orvil Coleman home. The infant daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Perry Crossley was blessed recently and given the name, Lee Ann, by her father. Elder Greg Lindley will be the speaker in sacrament meeting Sunday at 4 p.m. He will enter the mission home in Salt Lake City on Aug. 18 prior to attending language training school at BYU before leaving for a mission in Peru. His friends and relatives are invited to the meeting Sunday evening. The immediate family of Mr. James Manuel Packer met Saturday for a reunion in Mack's Park. Five of the seven children present were Mr. and Mrs. J. Elmo Packer, North Logan; Mrs. Lera Thomson, Rexburg, Ida.; President and Mrs. A. Reed (Luana) Halver- - Smithfield Fourth Ward Sixty family members representing Oregon, Idaho, California and Utah were present at the Silas and Amanda Cardon Ricks family reunion held at the Alton Hillyard home over the weekend. Other grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. George Metcalf oi Magna. A baby daughter arrived at the home of Mr. and Mrs. LaMar Reeder of Othello, Wash., July 24. She has three brothers awaiting her at home. Mr. and Mrs. Robert H. Reeder of Trenton are the proud grandparents. as well as Mr. and Mrs. Henry Bollschweiler of Midway. Ut. Mrs. James B. Spackman underwent surgery last week in the Logan hospital. Kent and Blake Hatch, sons of Mr. and Mrs. Lavor Hatch, had their tonsils removed Monday. Mr. and Mrs. Norman Christensen attended the wedding of their son Carl to Karen Young, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Silas Young of Tooele, last Friday morning in the Logan Temple. A reception was given in their honor that evening in the Tooele stake center. Mr. and Mrs. Merlin Andrew also attended the reception. Mr. and Mrs. Arrol Smith visited their daughter and her husband, Mr. and Mrs. Keith Bishop in Bountiful while returning from Salt Lake City. Bishop Ken Munk, his wife Sharon and their family had an excursion to Salt Lake City and to Manti where they enjoyed the Pageant as well as swimming and shopping. Dick and Aileen Preece went on a horseback ride and picnic up Logan Canyon. Wayne and Donna Jorgensen spent the night in Jackpot, Nev., where they enjoyed supper and a dinner show. They also visited in Twin Falls, Ida. Mr. and Mrs. Elmo Warren enjoyed a weekend visit from their son, Pvt. A1 Warren, who flew in from Ft. Devens, Mass., where he is stationed with the Army. Laura Lee Warren has recently returned from a trip to Fresno, Calif. She stayed with her brother, Ivan, and his wife, Susan, and their two boys. Ivan and Susan are former residents of Amalga. Laura stayed six weeks and returned home with her sister Orvetta and husband, Merle Thurston. During her trip she visited Virginia City, Carmel, Monterey, and the Shafer Lake Boy Scout Camp where Ivan works with the Boy Scouts in a professional capacity. Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Payne, over the weekend. Kent Hatch visited last week with his brother and family in Park City. The Trenton Scouts spent a week at Camp Hunt in Bear Ixike. Chaperoning them were James Taylor, IxiVor Hatch. Koliert Reeder and Paul Miner. Monday evening a successful closing social was held for the Primary. The evening included singing, dancing and refreshments. Items made during the summer were displayed. Troop 55 of Amalga achieved top honors this past week at Camp Hunt on Bear Lake. They received the Top Troop Award and the first place trophy for points in the final day activity competition. Thirty-fiv- e merit badges were awarded at the final campfire to the twelve scouts who attended the camp. Troop members at camp were Sid Munk, David Hansen, Shane Munk, Alan Rindlisbacher, Kelly Rindlisbacher, Chris Albach, Paul Hansen, Michael Jorgensen, Tobin Garrett, Barry Hansen, Don Rindlisbacher and Alan Noble. Leaders who participated at camp were Dale Rindlisbacher, Bishop Kenneth Munk and Michael Preece. Special mile swim awards were earned by David Hansen and Michael Jorgensen. Mr. and Mrs. Orlando Preece have enjoyed a visit from their daughter, Karen Daley, and her three children from Othello, Washington. Smithfield Fourth Ward By Winnie Ziegler Gifford Barbarka, husband of singer Melva Niles, who appeared recently at Utah State spoke to the large group attending the Fourth ward's annual summer party July 24. Following a picnic supper, Mr. Barbarka gave a lecture on the Book of Mormon. His wife could not attend the party due to illness. Jan Linford recently pinch-hitte- d for her sister, Christy Lower, as life guard at the Sky View pool. Christy took the opportunity to attend the Hill Cumorah Pageant in New York while her sister visited here with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Larry Lower. Other recent visitors at the Lower home were Jill and Lori Johnson, Christy's former roommates. The Herbert Ziegler family enjoyed a four day camp-ou- t and reunion at Gray's River in Wyoming over the 24lh. Forty members enjoyed the event which included excellent fishing. Mr. and Mrs. Bert Corbett spent the weekend in Salt Lake City as guests of their son, Robert Corbett. While there they attended a presentation of Promised Valley." Mr. Elliott Thomley is recuperating in the LDS hospital following surgery. Mr. and Mrs. It. E. Chambers of Logan entertained at a birthday dinner in their home honoring Herbert Ziegler Satur- day evening. Present were Mr. and Mrs. Bert Corbett. Mr. and Mrs. Ziegler and the host and hostess. Carl Follett is in the Ixigan LDS hospital where he has undergone major surgery. He is improving and hopes to be able to return home soon. Mr. and Mrs. Leon Hill were visited recently by their daughter and her husband. Dr. and Mrs. Jim Langford and their children of Gallup. N. M. Leon's parents. Mr. and Mrs. Sam Hill of Idaho, also visited. While here the Langfords enjoyed a visit with the Rex C. Birch family. Mr. and Mrs. Lynn Cheat and family enjoyed a nine day trip recently to Palisades, Wyo. Farewell services for Curtis Jeppeson who will serve a mission in New Zealand, were held Sunday. Also Sunday Roma Anderson, who has served for 20 years in the Primary, was released as chorister. Ira Kennington, son of Mr. and Mrs. Howard Kennington. was graduated from Primary. Kathryn Israelsen and two children of Cambridge. Mass., are visiting at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Gutke. The Israclsens came for the wedding last week of Kathryns sister, Marilyn, to Brian Lundbcrg. Kathryn's husband. Dwight, who is completing work for a doctoral degree in economics at MIT, will join his wife and children here in several weeks. The family will then make their home in Provo following four in Massachussetts. Players Of The Week Newcomers to the Smithfield Blue Sox Don Tarbet, Kimber Hall and Randy Hunt are proving to be valuable assets as the team heads into the home stretch. Don Tarbet got off to a spectacular start in his initial Blue Sox effort last Wednesday shutout night as he pitched a against Preston in state tourn 5-- 0 ament play. A legacy from the Smithfield American Legion team, Tarbet pitched Sky View to its Region I championship this spring and will be around next year as a senior. Back for his second year with the Blue Sox is Sky View and Lewiston Legion pitcher, Kimber Hall. In his first start as pitcher Saturday night, Hall defeated Orem, in the first half of a twin bill. He will be a senior in the fall at Sky View. catcher Randy Hunt, also instrumental in capturing the Sky View Region I title, is spending his first season with the Sox. A recent graduate of Sky View, Hunt also played with the Smithfield Legion team this 9-- 8, All-sta- te year. Following lunch the families enjoyed renewing old friendships and the activities at Lagoon. Members of . the reunion committee were Vance Petersen, Val Benson and Dr. Vaughan Rigby. The third annual J. J. Larsen family reunion was held recently at Middle Spring Hollow. A short program in which the grandchildren related experiences in the life of their grandfather, J. J. Johnson was presented. Lunch was served to about 40 family members. Reed Bartlett and Diane Hendricks were chairmen for the event. Mr. and Mrs. Keith Barker visited recently with Mrs. Barker's family in Texas. Vickie Iloher, a best friend and former roommate of Carma Hansen Mirabel, was a visitor at the home of Sid and Edris Hansen over the July 14 weekend. Carma and her two sons were here visiting. She and Vickie had worked together in San Francisco. Others at the Hansen home were the Hansen daughters, Glenna and Leon Peterson and five children of Las Vegas, Nev., Doris Crockett of Bountiful and Elaine Hatch and her four children of Salt Lake City. This is the first time the family has all been together in three years. Trip To Holland Recounted sus-lane- An-nek- was employed by the governor for the Queen for four years. Other places of interest for the children were the childhood 'homes of their parents, a trip to the Bossen. which is an open sandy recreation area surrounded by trees and a visit to a traditional Dutch windmill. The Dorenboschs visited many relatives on Ixith sides of the family and Theadora enjoyed an evening with President and Mrs. Max Pinnegar at the mission home. They also visited Elder Mike Nielsen of the Smithfield Second Ward. Mike is serving a mission in Holland and was happy to get the banana bread sent by his mother and delivered by Theadora. The Dorenlxischs returned with gifts and memories and were welcomed home at the airport by an anxious husband and father. Jon. Trenton Last week.
