Show GRASSELLI WILL BE CUSTOM MILL to be remodeled and converted into best mill in state thursdays tribune contained the following regarding the purchase of the grassell Grae selli mill which will be ol of interest to our readers john joha pingree president of the merchants bank of this city has bought the grasselli Grassel lf zinc plant on the flat below park city and it is to be remodeled and converted into a custom mill tor for the park city district A company of local people is in process of formation to finance and carry out the work planned george 11 of the western exploration company az as general manager of 0 the new concern will have charge of the remodeling of the mill and its subsequent operation the grasselli plant Is a well built and well equip pod ped dry concentrator representing an original investment of about it has a good power plant plenty of water a railroad spur and complete laboratory office and other buildings many changes in the mill will of course be necessary and it is expected the work of rn making king them will begin before the end of next week crushing machinery ro asters and leaching machinery is to be added and it Is believed chrs can be accomplished in ninety days the mill Is intended to toli andle those ores of the the of 0 too low grade to be sent with profit to the valley smelt ers and that have been found extremely difficult dini cult to concentrate without a loss of values that was prohibitive three or four years experience peri beri ence and observation in the park city district and especially with the Amerle fau flag nine mine led the we western I 1 t exploration company people to see the need and seek a solution of the problem mr a metallurgical lurg ical engineer has been employed tor for the last seven months in experimenting with the ore and investigating treatment methods the first step taken in the investigation was to decide once and tor for all that no process would be considered which had not been carried to a successful and practical stage by others hence the work was confined to narrow limits while it had been known for some time that the mill ore constantly being added to by development was peculiarly amenable both physically and chemically to the new chlorination process yet this method of treatment was not looked upon with favor because it was until recently in an experimental stage so far as successful appliances were concerned while a description of this new process is not permissible at this time it Is a matter of common knowledge that it Is a modernization of the old augustin August ln process wherein the metals are converted to chlorides and subsequently leached beached with suitable solvents the process as now perfected has overcome the previously existing difficulties in low extractors extrac tons and high costs while the management of the american flag was watching the development of the chlorination pro cess it was carefully studying the results to be obtained by concentration and concentration followed by without going into detail in regard to the tests it was found that concentration alone was unsatisfactory and that a recovery of 36 per cent of the silver 49 per cent of the gold and practically all the lead was tho the best that could be expected al A combination of concentration and cy 1 gave a final extraction of 32 92 per cent of the gold and 84 per cent of the silver consuming 34 pounds cyanide leaching with sulphuric acid before also go a fair recovery with a reasonable cyanide consumption chlorination promises a recovery of f a ton and since sanco this method of treatment is in practical operation its adoption has been decided upon As a starter tor for the new mill which at the beginning la is to bo be of thirty tons dally daily capacity it has a very favorable contract with the american flag mine to furnish it thirty tons of ore dally daily tor for five years this assures the mill a profit from the start and five years business as the american flag has now blocked out about tons of 0 1200 ore on which the experiments above detailed were made it la is the purpose to enlarge the mill as soon as it Is a demon demonstrated success to whatever capacity ma may be called for by the demands of the district the process Is practically the same as that employed in the mines operating companas comp anys mill at park city and the new knight mill at silver city it Is considered sufficiently tried to be a proven success there Is a wide field in utah tor for operations along this line as the tonnage of ores that can be handled best and most economically by this process Is very large not only in alark park city but in other camps campa of the state the gras belll zinc plant was built to handlo handl the daly judge zinc but when a process ot of separating the zinc at the mine mill in the course of 0 concentration was put into operation the zinc plant was left with nothing to do and has been idle tor for two or three years mr is a master of metallurgical practice and an expert in the technical branches of mining science he has had wide practical experience having managed mills at de lamar fairview and wonder nov nev and made a conspicuous success of 0 each |
