Show Taxing Salaries of Officials We think that there will be very general agreement that if the Federal Fed-eral Government is accorded the right to tax the salaries of state officials, that the State Govern-mens Govern-mens should have the right to tax the salaries of Federal officials. This, of course, is in line with the recommendation of President Roosevelt, Roos-evelt, who in A.ril proposed such taxation on salaries of officials. Naturally, it would be wise to provide that neither the States or the Federal Government could levy a tax against officials of the other units except upon the same basis of the tax upon its own officials. In other words, if the Federal Government Govern-ment levied an income tax against the salaries of State officials, they should not pay any more than Federal Fed-eral officials pay to the Federal Government on their cwn salaries. The same rule should apply to State income taxes against salaries of Federal officials. |
