Show : FAIRVIEW By Special Correspondence A fraewell party in honor of Lawrence Larsen was given in the North ward August 13. The following follow-ing program was given: The Singing Motheis sang "I'll Go Where You Want Me to Go. Dear Lord"; a tap dance by Bonnie Knight; piano solo by Betty Fowles; a talk by Frank Lasen; a talk by Olaf Larsen Lar-sen of Salt Lake; organ solo by Ellis Vance; talk by the missionary, Lawrence Larsen; the Singing Mo'.hers sang "God Be With You" and the benediction was given by Allie Carlston. The program was follclwed by a dance in the Amusement Amuse-ment Hall. Elder Larsen will enter the Mission Home August 30. He will leave for New York where he will sail for the Norweigan Mission about the middle of September. A farewell testimonial honoring Georgia Olsen was given in the South Ward Sunday evening, August Aug-ust 21. Miss Olsen, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George F. Olsen, has accepted a call for a teaching mission mis-sion to Texas. She will teach in the Kelsey school during the winter win-ter .mionths and do missionary work during the slimmer months. The program was as follolws: invocation was offered by J. Seymour Jensen; "Dawn" and "Story of Old" were sung by the Lions Club quartet of Mt. Pleasant; remarks, President H. C. Jacobs; saxophone solo, Ross Graham; vocal duet by two of Mrs. Olsen's sisters, Mrs. Loren Peterson and Mrs. Gene Spickman; remarks by Heber Mower; trumpet solo by Rees Olsen; remarks by Bishop Burns Cox; song by Beulah Carl-s:cn; Carl-s:cn; talk by the missionary, Georgia Geor-gia Olsen; song, "I'll Go Where You Want Me to Go" by Charles Schmidt; benediction by C. B. Howell. How-ell. A farewell dance was given in Miss Olsen's honor Friday night. She has comtpleted her studies in the Mission Home ana is leaving for Texas this week. Funeral services for Newell Peterson Peter-son were held in the North ward Wednesday, August 17th. Bishop Henry Jones presided. The choir sang "Though Deepning Trials Throng Your Way". Speakers were George F. Olsen, Val Dean Stewart and Parley Peterson. Mrs. Irvtn Peterson sang "Somewhere the Sun is Shining." A vocal solo, "Sleep, Soldier Boy" was given by Floyd Young. Closing remarks were given giv-en by Bishop Jones. The benediction benedic-tion was given by N. P. Christensen. The casket ,was wrapped in an American Flag. Members of the American Legion acted as pallbearers. pallbear-ers. The grave in Fairview cemetery ceme-tery was dedicated by Will Peterson of Spring City. Newell Peterson iwas a World War veteran. The remains of Alma Robert Young, 70, who died in Bountiful, was brought to Fairview for burial. A short funeral service was held at the graveside. Prayer was given by Will Bonne. The services were m charge of Bishop Henry Jones. John R. Grahaim was the speaker. A vocal vo-cal solo was given by Floyd Young and a vocal solo by Miss Eva Cox. George Graham of Bountiful dedicated dedi-cated the grave in the Fairview camietery. Mr. and Mrs. Mitchell Hansen and Mr. and Mrs. Revere Hansen and families of Logan, spent last nrooVnH ot. "Pn.irvipw. One of the largest celebrations of the year was that given August 20 and 21 sponsored by the Fairview ball team and the business men. A fine parade, four bands, including the Girls Drum and Bugle Corps of Richfield who are international winners, and also floats from- the leading business houses. At the city park was held races, games, a baseball game between an all-star all-star club from Sanpete and the Draper team, and a ladies soft ball game betlween Fairview and Draper. A grand ball at the Amusement hall in the evening concluded the activities activi-ties cf the day. . On Sunday a very Urge crowd went over the mountains moun-tains to attend the barbecue. However, How-ever, because of the drowning of Mr. Mangum, the games and sports were not held as planned. Following are the committees in charge cf the celebration: Reeve Norman, general chairman; Floyd Young and Whitford Amundsen, parade committee; Jack Stewart, advertising; Ed. Coombs, baseball; Charles H. Briggs, sports; P. O. Hu'st. secretary-treasurer; Win-ford Win-ford Sanderson, finance; Vern Jensen Jen-sen and G. G. Sanderson, barbecue. Mr. Winn Sanderson has gone to feattle, Washington, on his vaca-iion. vaca-iion. Randall Carlston accompanied him. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Ashman and children cf South Jordan visited relatives at Fairview Sunday and Monday. Mr. Harry Sundwall and Miss Dearwyn Saidoni of Provo spent the past weekend at Fairview visiting vis-iting friends. Mrs. Ellis Coombs is spending tlTO weeks visiting her daughter, Mrs. Golden Durfee at Notam. |
