Show PROPOSED CHANGE IN BUS ROUTES GETS BOARD VETO In the face of repeated requests from school patrons recommendations recommendations recommendations of Superintendents ever since the question has come up and claimed actual cash savings in school administration the Duchesne Duchesne Duchesne Du Du- Du- Du chesne county Board of Education I turned thumbs down on the re re- re- re quest of and West Vest Arcadia Arcadia Ar Ar- cadia parents to have their students students students stud stud- routed to Duchesne instead of My Myton ton and Roosevelt at a special meeting of the board in Roosevelt Friday evening This question question has has come up before before before be be- I fore the board several times each year for the past five or six years I a according to Arcadia residents and has met with what seems to them unwarranted opposition at each request Complain on Road Conditions There are some sixty students in West Vest Arcadia who have been I transported in the past to theMy the I My Myton ton elementary school and to the high school in Roosevelt Some twenty-six twenty students in Mid- Mid view viey have been transported along along along a- a long with Eastern Arcadia stu stu- dents to the same destination The main complaint of parents of these students is based on the fact that the students are compelled to o leave their homes enough earler earlier earl- earl ier er in the mornings and later in inthe inthe I the evenings to allow for the high school students to be transported to Roosevelt This was aggravated during the past winter winer winter win- win ter er by the fact that road conditions conditions condi- condi Jons made it impossible on many days for the bus to get out east of at all and according to parents along this route their students lost a total of six weeks of school on this account while the he road to Duchesne was open I at all times Roosevelt D Delegation legation Heard At a meeting Frida Friday evening a meeting which had been called for the express purpose of interviewing interviewing interviewing inter inter- viewing prospective high 1 school principals and which had been declared declared de de- de- de dared closed to all delegations by President Floyd Lamb a delegation delegation tion lion oti ot Rooseve t ci citizens was heard apparently headed by Walter Walter Walter Wal Wal- ter Atwood an employee of the board Both of these complaints could be eliminated according to the sponsors of the change if the students were transported to Duchesne Duchesne Du Du- Du- Du chesne where both high school and students could arrive arrive ar ar- ar- ar rive together at the time school starts and where busses could travel over paved highways for forthe forthe forthe the greater part of the distance This committee protested the proposed change and submitted a report of a survey purportedly made by Mr Atwood which claim- claim I the parents involved were opposed to the change for which they have been fighting for the past five years After other business of the meeting was completed the board vetoed a motion in favor of the change and decided to route the students a as in the past |
