Show I TABLE DECORATIONS So long have we looked upon the .holly, the mistletoe and the evergreen ipough aa the undisputed decorations (or ihe Christmas tree that it is quite an Innovation that we now look upon 1 I the Christmas rose as a possible alternative. al-ternative. To be sure, we have had the poinsettia occasionally and found It entirely sati3factory, either In Its natural or artificial guise. Perhaps it Is because we have found that we could make this substitute that we have discovered the decorative possibilities pos-sibilities of the red rose for Christmas. If you are clever at making flowers from tlgsue paper nothing would be nicer than a red rose Jack Horner pie for the-center of your Christmas table. In many places, you know, roses actually ac-tually are brought to bloom through the snow at Christmas, so in your scheme of roses for Christmas it is doubly interesting if you can have a sprinkling of artificial snow around the red Christmas rose. If you havo the largo center rose, then small roses at each place, attached by means of narrow red ribbons', are very effective, effec-tive, and these might also be sprinkled with artificial snow. But whatever you do by way of decorations deco-rations remember that the prevailing colors should be red, holly green and white just as truly as those of Thanksgiving were the autumn and harvest shade's of orange, brown and purple. If you are anywhere near the open country or woods, or can make an excursion ex-cursion thither without great trouble, you really can get almost all the decorations dec-orations you will need for your table for the mere gathering. Of course If you can get holly branches thoy aro your natural selection, but holly cannot can-not be gathered In most parlB of the country so easily. However, It Is almost al-most always possible to get a few evergreen ev-ergreen boughs. If you cannot do this get spme interesting looking twigs. These can be made attractive by spraying them with a little diluted gum arabic and then sprinkling them with powdered mica or other artificial snow. These can be arranged either by slicking them upright In a pot surrounded sur-rounded by dark green paper or by laying them about a centerpiece of holly. If dinner Is sewed at night and you have candles on tho table the artificial ar-tificial snow on the twigs glJstenB very attractively. nn . |
