Show I oo CHRISTMAS TREES I TO BE PERMANENT1 WASHINGTON, Dec. 24 Why not tho permanent Community Christmas Tree, is the question being asked many times of the American Forestry Association As-sociation which is urging memorial trees for sailors and soldiers in the world war. In urging this C. P. Wilber, acting state forester of New Jersey says: "To do this will stimulate the 'got together spirit locally by insuring an annual gnthorlng in the holiday season because tho tree will command recog-, recog-, nition as a temporary provision from year to year Inay not. Originally set with definite memorial purpose, it will further'emphasizo In a public way the recognition by its planters and those who come after them, of the grati-. grati-. tude for loyal, patriotic service rendered ren-dered in the crucial period of the na-: na-: tino and the world." The American Forestry association points out tho great waste in sotting up community trees overy Christmas and then throwing thorn away and suggests that permanent planting be adopted in suitable locations where-ever where-ever possible. Tho Memorial tree Idea Is bolng adopted all over tho country, reports to tho association show, ,and being considered as the proper setting set-ting for other forms of memorial plans. |
