Show 13 HiSStop June 3, 1999 Recycling center no longer accepts glass Phone books accepted through July 5 by Alyric Ray Wizard of Waste Some changes are taking place in the recycling program at Hill AFB. Glass is no longer accepted at the recycle dropoff station by Building 805. Phone books were distributed June 1. Old books may be deposited inside the Recycle Center during duty hours or in the yellow bins after duty hours and on weekends. Collections continue through the July 4 weekend. Phone books will not be collected from offices and work areas on base. Other notes to help employees help the recycle program do a better job: The center still collects white ledger paper, office mix (including colored paper), chemically treated paper such as NCR carbonless copy paper and manila file folders. These are the cream colored folders as contrasted with Kraft folders, which are dark brown (9 (grocery bag brown) and should not be included card- tic and wire spiral bindings and any gum material such as envelopes, gum bound books and yellow with recyclable office pack paper. Corrugated board is also collected. Contaminants that should be kept out of the include carbon paper, plastics (such as shrink wrap and document protectors) , large metal springclips (paper clips and staples are acceptable), plasrecy-clabl- bins are still proand 2 and tin or aluminum cans. Please note and observe the rules of recycling etiquette when using the center. stickies (Post-i- t notes). Drop-of- f vided for newspaper, plastics es 1 Plastic containers are made from many different types of resins. To help keep them separate, and identify those that can be combined, on or near the bottom of most American made items there's a numbering system. Numbers range from 1 - 7 and are inside the three chasing arrows recycle symbol. If there is a number other than one or two, Hill doesn't recycle them. If there's no number at all, the item should be discarded because there's no simple way to determine which category it should be placed in. The number two category is divided because of the color in many of these containers, mostly laundry products such as starches, conditioners and soaps. Milk jugs are the frosted appearing containers, which are considered natural (that is without color) . Other containers like water bottles are also made of this type material and can be combined. Lastly, keep contaminants out of the corrugated cardboard bins and newspaper bins. Bricks, concrete blocks, rocks, scrap wood, rubber tires, diapers, grocery bags, scrap metal and yard waste such as grass clippings and tree trimmings do not belong in the newspaper bins, the cardboard bins or the trash containers.
