Show SduUG0O D6IS COft!? ft GBOOnDHGUGB'S A beginning skier is often hesitant about climbing aboard one of the long chair lifts at the bigger resorts, riding to the top of the hill, and then skiing down a thousand feet of terrain. If he is, there is no need to be. Near Salt Lake there are three "little" ski areas, one of them brand new, whose lifts, terrain and pass prices are geared to the beginner's ability. Little Mountain, located nine miles east of Salt Lake at the summit of Emigration Canyon, offers the novice a 500 foot long, 76 foot vertical rise open slope serviced by two rope tows. Ski school, night skiing and a snack bar are available at Little Mountain. By car, Little Mountain is only 15 minutes away from the University. New, Area Cal McPhie, owner of Little Mountain, developed another year-round recreation area this summer: Gorgoza Pines. "There's an untouched concept in winter sports recreation. Skiing is not the only thing to merit consideration when building new resorts," McPhie said. Gorgoza is located 15 miles east of Salt Lake City, just over the summit of Parleys Canyon. Gorgoza is named after an Italian sheepherder wh managed the land in early days in an agreement with Brigham Young. lin Over $300,000 was invested in the area. Activiti include skiing, tobogganing, sledding, tubing and winter parties. Ice skating and bob sledding win k added next year. e Two double chair lifts and a T-bar serve the skier There are also an 1100 foot three chute tobaggan run sledding and tubing hills, 20 meter and a 40 meter Federation of International Skiing (FIS) jumps. Park City's First Facilities at Gorgoza also include a 500 car parking lot, warming hut facilities, restaurant, ski shop, and rentals. Show Park is the third small resort in the area. Snow Park was the original Park City skiing area. Located a mile and a half out of town, it features five runs serviced by two single chair lifts. Snow Park is open to the public only on week-ends, but is available to private groups by arrangement for week-day skiing or tubing parties. It is a favorite tubing area. To reach Snow Park, drive to the Union Pacific train depot in Park City, then continue East out of town. |
