Show Formerly Mountain Empire Solitude io reopen fhis season Located just 23 miles from downtown Salt Lake City, Solitude offers some of the best variety in mountain west skiing. Solitude was built by R. N. Barrett, a local ski promoter, in 1962. The resort's three chairlifts give skiers the variety of schushing down a steep bowl, gliding knee deep through light powder or making a fast traverse along steep mountainsides. The area also has an excellent beginner's hill. : - - The area was designed with the family in mind. Near the main parking lot the owners have cleared a good toboggan and sleigh riding hill for kids. While the younger children sleigh, dad and mom can ride fast chairlifts to high elevations and ski through some of the lightest powder snow in the state. A few years back the resort was purchased by the Western Crane Corp., and the name was changed to Mountain Empire. This year the resort was repossessed by Mr. Barrett, and the name was changed back to Solitude. Lee Hobbs, attorney for the resort, said some season passes were sold by the old management before the area was repossed. "We will attempt to honor all of the season passes. If we are giving rides only to ticket holders, then there may be some change in the policy," he said. The area plans to be operating by Dec. 20th. All the lifts and tows are "expected to be running, Mr. Hobbs said. . |
