Show A Patriotic Demonstration Evidence of ot good faith was not lacking last Thursday when something something something some some- thing like one and fifty Delta people turned out to a call to help thin and weed sugar beets over over tho the valley which were badly in need of atten atten- tion The Tho idea of the occasion was not so much a matter of the number of beets which these people could weed in two days as we understand it but more as a matter of to the cause and to encourage those who had beets in the field which were suffering from lack of attention to take courage and strive to get their beets thinned also to let the outside outside outside out out- side world know what the condition here really is and to stir them if possible to some action tending to relieve the situation Bishop Maxfield who was in the city at the time was notified and he called on the Governor and asked that the state troops which are mob- mob there be sent here or that the interned Germans now at Ft Douglas be and put In the field Both of these ideas were turned down The labor problems all over the country is serious and it is next to Lo impossible to get even tradesmen for the ordinary run of business to say nothing of a hundred or two workmen to fill field places when there is demand for them in a dozen places over the country These men are entirely independent and will pick out the easiest kind of work going Our local factory has imported many men who for one cause or another would not stay and work For every man imported the company company company com com- pany has paid out 35 and still there remains a big dirth of labor The company is working in all parts of the country to try and obtain help and while some may may blame them for not being able to procure help the conditions which now exist are unnatural unnatural unnatural un un- natural and could not be forseen and we feel that they have used ever every effort available to secure the necessary help but that it is simply unavailable Tho They have just received a considerable considerable considerable consid consid- erable addition to the beet weeding force and let us hope that every grower will t take ke new life get his fields in shape where they can bemore be bemore bemore more easily handled and that the larger part of the crop can be saved to the benefit of the grower the tho factory and the community There Thore was some little opposition and lack of cooperation on the part of some somo of the towns town's people and some of the growers but the move was all that could be asked for and those who could not see their wa way Jj clear to help out the tho move will wm be none the better off in inthe inthe J 1 F the end j I |
