Chosen to attend the mock state to be conducted in June on the Utah State University campus in Logan are: . Karen Wakefield, active in school sports and singing. She is a member of the school pep club. Her parents are Mr. and Mrs. G. Dwight Wakefield, 2660 Filmore St. . Adrienne Halvorsen, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ruel B. Halvor-sen 1020 Wood Ave. Adrienne is a member of the school yearbook staff and was a delegate to the 1956 model U.N. Carla Downs, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Elvin Downs, 2901-12t- h East, a member of the pep club with interests in sports and sing-ing. daughter of Mr. Kay Morris, and Mrs. Wayne B. Morris, 1383 Zenith Ave. Kay is a member of the SOS club and active in the Red Cross. She also enjoys sports and singing. Lenore Thompson, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Owen Davis, 1413 E. 21st South. Lenore is second vice president of the pep club and is also editor of the South High Scribe. Julia B. Hoenes Notes 88th Birthday Mrs. Julia B. Hoenes, widow of the late Dr. Andrew J. Hoenes, was 88 years old last Friday. Mrs. Hoenes celebrated her birthday at her home, 821 E. 21st South. Mrs. Hoenes, the mother of six sons and daughters, was born April 12, 1869, at Nelson, Wisconsin. She was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ehrhardt Bucher. A year after she graduated from Battle Creek Sanitarium in Mich-igan as a nurse, she was married to Dr. Hoenes, then a member of the medical staff at the sanitarium. They came to Utah and made their home in Murray from 1910 to 1945. Mr. Hoenes, who practiced in Mur-ray many years, died in 1952 at the age of 91. Mr. and Mrs. Hoenes celebrated their 60th wedding- - anniversary the year before Mr. Hoenes died. Mrs. Hoenes still likes to care for her flower garden, a life-lon- g hobby. She is an active member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church. Five of Mrs. Hoenes six sons and daughters are still living. They are Walter A. Hoenes and Theo-dore R. Hoenes, both of Ogden; William Hoenes, Provo; James A. Hoenes, Hayward, Calif, and, Mrs. Evangeline Winward, San Francisco. She also has 11 grand-children and 21 great-grandchildre- n. Another son, Victor C. Hoenes, died in 1955. NROTC Accepts Southeast Youth A southeast Salt Lake City youth has been named to attend Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps schooling. According to Utah Sen. Arthur V Watkins, Don S. Harper Jr., 419 Redondo Ave., will be attending :ollege under the NROTC program. The Navy will pay part of the expenses in one of 52 accepted colleges. . , Young Harper will augment his college classes with Naval science training and will serve on active duty after graduation. Martin Allred, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Linden Allred of Orem, was elected new student chief last Fri-day in a vote with 80 per cent of the studentbody participating. Mr. Allred is a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He graduated from Pleasant Grove High School and attended the Utah State Agricu-ltural College before joining the service. New vice president is Russ McOmber, an English major. Mr. McOmber who attended Coalinga Junior College in Coalinga, Calif., before coming to Westminster, is a son of Mr. and Mrs. H. T. McOm- - ber of 932 y2 --15th East St He is also a armed service veteran. Other officers are: Carol Howells, new secretary. Miss Howells is a sophomore and has been active in various girls athletic programs. She is from Odenton, Md. Ray Brinton, new treasurer. Mr. Brinton is a son of Mr. and Mrs. C. D. Brinton of 1586 Emerson Ave. He has been junior class president sophomore class vice president' and junior Prom chair-man at Westminster. Service Men . . Army PU. Robert K. Murphy 22 whose wife, Mary Ann. lives at 1819 McClelland st, recently was assigned to Battery C of the 617th Field Artillery Battalion at Fort Sill, Okla. Murphy, son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert F. Murphy, Bridgeland entered the Army last October and completed basic training at Fort Carson, Colo. Pvt Donald W. Ebert, 23, whose wife, Marilyn, lives at 3305 Bon View dr was graduated March 10 from the Combat Engineer School at the Army's Engineer Training Center Fort Leonard Wood, Mo. The 'son of Mr. and Mrs. Paul H. Ebert, 3214 S. Seventh, he is a graduate of Jordan High School in Sandy. Pvt. Allen E. Wright, son of Mrs. Ida M. Larsen, 2859 Chadwick st., recently was graduated from the ammunition helper course at The Ordnance School, Aberdeen Proving Ground, Md. During the eight-wee- k course, Wright was trained in the hand-ling, receiving, storing, issuing, and transporting of ammunition and explosives. Wright entered the Army In April 1956 and completed basic training at Fort Carson, Colo. '57-5- 8' Posts Filled At Judge Memorial Officers for the 1957-'5- 8 school year have been elected at Judge Memorial. The new president will be Fred Pinkerton, son of Mrs. Margaret Pinkerton of 1517 E. 3045 South Gt. Young Pinkerton has been a varsity football halfback at the school. Marleen Moeller, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Moeller of 1253 E. 3420 South will be the new vice president. Neva Mae McElhattan, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. D. F. McElhattan of 1896 E. 4720 South has been elected secretary and Jerry Wood, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ellen Wood of 1405 Emery will be the new treasurer. ' These officers and new class officers, along with school repre-sentatives, will form the new stu-dent council for the next school year. ; Pvt Eugene Giles, son of Mr. and Mrs. George E. Giles, 259 Twelfth st., E., recently was assigned to the 601st Field Artil-lery Missile Battalion In Germany. Giles, a clerk typist in the bat-talon- 's Headquarters and Service Company, entered the Army In September 1956 and completed basic training at Fort Carson, Colo. |
