Show That Home-Town Fire Department A first-class fire department is as necessary to a town, large or small, as .is a pure water supply. Farming areas, in particular, suffer from lack of adequate fiv protectlon. An excessive proportion propor-tion of the national fire loss occurs oc-curs on farms, as do deaths due to fire. The solution is the establishment estab-lishment of fire districts, with high-grade apparatus situated at points where it can serve a number num-ber of small communities and the surrounding territory. A good department of this kind with a well-trained personnel and standard apparatus, can be created cre-ated and maintained at a comparatively com-paratively low cost. And, whatever what-ever that cost is, it is the finest kind of saving. The only really expensive ex-pensive departments are inefficient departments every dollar invested in a first-rate organization a-mounts a-mounts to insurance on our lives and property. The fire department is a good community hobby. It is worth watching, worth taking a permanent perma-nent interest in. Every citizen should investigate his department and determine, as well as he can whether it is up to the highest standards. |
