Show Farmers Urged To Vote in AAA Elections Every farmer should take an active ac-tive interest in the administration of the farm program, said Orviile L. Lee of Paradise, chairman of the Utah State AAA committee, Monday, as he urged greater par-I par-I ticipation in the county and community com-munity AAA elections to be held this fall. "It is not too early to begin to think of the men who will administer admin-ister the 1943 farm program in communities and counties," Mr. Lee said. "Freedom is lost when people lose interest in governing themselves." He explained that the farm program is built up on democratic principles with county and community com-munity committees elected each year. First, elections are held in each community to determine the farmers' choice of a community committee. All farmers, who are members of the county association, are eligible to vote. Every farmer who is cooperating in the farm program is a member of the county association. Following the community elections, elec-tions, the county election is held to choose a county committee. The chairman of this committee also becomes chairman of the county USDA War Board. The county committee is comprised of a chairman, chair-man, a vice chairman, an active member an dtwo alternates. Increased production of food and fibre, the need to make the best use of every acre of crop land, shortage of labor and equipment, the serious storage and transportation transpor-tation problems and many others, have placed many added responsibilities responsi-bilities upon county and community commun-ity committeemen. Every farmer should know that agriculture cannot can-not make its full contribution to the war effort, unles very able men are chosen to administer their farm program for coming year, Mr. Lee warned. He said this warning is no reflection re-flection on farmers who are serving serv-ing on committees at present but a directive to all farmers and ranchers to the state to see that the best men they can find are chosen to administer the 1943 program. 26. The invitation was forwarded to Colonel Cross by officials of the Federal Ship Buidling and Dry-Dock Dry-Dock Company of New Jersey, constructors of the new American warship. Named in honor of the late Rear Admiral James H. Glenon, father-in-law of Colonel Cross, the battleship will be christened by his' grand-daughter, Miss Jeanne Le-Jeeune Le-Jeeune Glenon. |
