Show WEEKLY REFLEX DAVIS NEWS JOURNAL, NORTH DAVIS LEADER, MAY 6, 1981 OTWMDILS Good Hews At Layton Orchestra Completes Tour High School By DEBBIE GEORGE CLEARFIELD CONCERT SET Clearfield High School Orchestra will be presenting its annual Spring String Fling Wednesday, May 13th at 7:30 p.m. in the Clearfield High School auditorium. Special guests will be Sunset Jr. High Orchestra and elementary string students from the surrounding area. A unique feature of the evening will combine all students on several selections for large string orchestra. Admission is $1 for adults and $3 per family. Proceeds will go towards the CHS Orchestra fund. All groups are under the direction of Kirk Beecher. Berg To Be Honored Harold Berg will be honored at an open house on Thursday. May 14 beginning at 3:30 p.m. in the Layton Elementary School room, 39 W. Gentile, Layton. multi-purpo- MR. BERG is changing assignments with the Davis School District at the close of this school year. He has been the principal of Layton Elementary School for the past 15 years. Prior to becoming a school principal of Layton Elementary School for the past 15 years. Prior to becoming a school principal, Mr. Berg was an elementary school teacher. She will complete 28 years served, dmg Register Childern At Doxey Parents of children who will start kindergarten at Doxey School, 944 N . 250 W. , Sunset, are encouraged to come to school May 12 to register their child. CHILDREN WHO turn five on or before October 31 are eligible for entrance into kindergarten. Bring a birth certificate or other legal document to verify the childs age. A brief program will be held at 10 a.m. on that day (attendance optional) to give you more information about kindergarten. Check with friends and neighbors who have children eligible to start kindergarten to be sure they are aware of this date. 4 good ! THE HIGHLIGHT of the trip took place April 25 when 1 the DHS Orchesta competed against approximately 25 other California orchestras at Mt. Miguel High School. Danse After playing and Schehere-zadBachanalle the first half of the competition, they were graduated to the top spot in their division and were invited to play at a concert of honor that evening where they would compete with their division for first place and the other five divisions for the highest honor "The Sweepstakes Trophy." e, AT THE evening perform- VICA ance the orchestra attained such a high level of performance that it would be difficult to ever achieve that level Leadership Meeting again, reflected Mr. Marsden. While on their tour the Shia Kapos took first place in extemporary speaking at the state VICA Annual Leadership meeting held at BYU qualifying her to April represent Davis High School at the Nationals in Atlanta, Ga. June Good News is scheduled for Friday, Saturday and Mon1 in day nights. May 8, 9 and the Layton High School auditorium at 7:30 p.m. THE PLAY takes place at Tail College, a coeducational school in a small town in the early 1900s. Its about the football teams captain that doesnt get to play in the big game because he's failing in school. But, like always, love conquers all. OTHER MAJOR leads are A1 Darroch as Coach Johnson: George Barkley as "Pooch" Kearney: Chris Sandberg as Miss Charlotte Kenyon; and Randy Stevens as "Beef Saunders. The director and set designer is Dennis Ferrin with Sheila Canfield, musical director. Bobbie Zahradka and Dennis Ferrin are the choreographers. The Layton High School production of the musical teaching second and third grades in Davis County. The last 17 years she has been in Burton Elem., teaching third grade. Suzanne Moon has given 25 years of service teaching chil- dren. Twenty-tw- o of those years in Davis County and 19 years at Burton Elem. School teaching kindergarten and first grade. DAV 15-2- GORDONS PAUL SMITH received third place in auto body at state competition at BYU, reshaping, welding and painting a car fender.
