Peay, Brigadier General (Ret.), is the Republican Re-publican candidate for the Utah State Senate District 27. Which includes Carbon, Car-bon, Emery, Grand, & San Juan Counties, Mapleton, Spanish Fork precincts 1, 3-6, 3-6, 9-14, Springville precinct 16, Birdseye, and Covered Bridge. Peay is a lifelong resident of Springville-Mapleton. Born May of 1945 to O.J. "Doc" and Wanda Stewart Peay. A graduate of Springville High School, he has a Bachelors of Science in Business and minors in Statistics, Economics and Accounting from BYU. He also earned a Masters in Public Administration from the BYU Marriott School of Management. While attending BYU he worked for U.S. Steel Geneva Works as an accountant. ac-countant. 1972 he became a full- time employee of the Utah Army National Guard. His military education includes in-cludes Data Processing School, Officer Candidate School, Engineer Officer Basic and Advanced Courses Cours-es and Command and General Gen-eral Staff College. General Peay retired in 2000. During his Guard career his positions included: Engineer En-gineer Platoon Leader, Assistant As-sistant Operations Officer, Battalion & Group Administrative Admin-istrative Officer, Executive Officer, for the 1457 Engineer Engi-neer Battalion and the 115th Engineer Group (units in Price, Blanding, Spanish Fork, and Springville). 1982 he was transferred to State Headquarters where he was Director of Engineering and Housing, Garrison Commander of Camp Williams, Chief of Staff, and Deputy Adjutant General. He likes to read war books, play baseball, football and basketball, he also likes to attend sporting events. Shawn is the son of Mike and Jacke Bulow , and grandson of Ray and Doris Bulow all of Mapleton, and the grandson of Wilf and Beverley Harris of Springville. He enjoys going to the mountains, boating and playing all sports. Emily is the daughter of A. Tal and Angela Pearce of Springville. Her hobbies are playing the guitar and piano, and singing. Alyssa is the daughter of Rod and Chris Oldroyd and granddaughter of Earl and Lois Child all of Springville. Her hobbies are reading, embroidery, em-broidery, art, swimming and playing volleyball. Keilani is the daughter of John and Corrin Gfeave of Springville. She enjoys cooking, sewing, interior design, de-sign, and playing volleyball. Daylih is the son or Bart and Maria Sperry of Springville. He is interested in drawing, cooking, playing the guitar, playing tennis, and basketball. Josh is the son of John and Emily Hickey of Mapleton. He enjoys reptiles, Nintendo, hiking in nature, and playing soccer and tennis. Michael is the son of Michael and Karol Coles of Springville. He enjoys earning earn-ing merit badges for scouts, and maze drawing. the National Guard Bureau General Officer Steering Committee for International Internation-al Affairs, National Guard Bureau Advisor Board for Military Construction, Board of Directors of the Utah Combined Federal Campaign, and the Executive Execu-tive Committee of the Utah Olympic Public Safety Command. He was also a member of the Governor's Cabinet Council for six years. General Peay has been awarded the Army Legion of Merit, Army Meritorious Meritori-ous Service Medal (with Oak Leaf Clusters), Army Commendation Medal (with Oak Leaf Clusters), Army Achievement Medal, Army Reserve Components Compo-nents Achievement Medal (6th Award), Humanitarian Service Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal, and seven Utah Nation Guard awards. General Peay was inducted induct-ed in the U. S. Army Officer Offi-cer Candidate School Hall of Fame at Fort Benning, Georgia. General Peay, through his assignments, has gained extensive ex-tensive experience working at the highest levels with both the state and federal government. He successfully and responsibly re-sponsibly managed an annual an-nual federal budget in excess ex-cess of one hundred million dollars. He has identified five issuesproblems that demand timely corrective action: Transportation, Education., Ed-ucation., Water, Utah's Economy and Public lands. On a personal note, he is married to the former Ann Palfreyman of Springville, who currently teaches at the Springville Middle School.
